BEFORE RETURNING TO The Ring, after crossing back to the north shore of the island, Katerina drives Pari in her Jeep into the community of Hale’iwa for shaved ice dessert. Pari recognizes the road and then spots Dr. Blake’s veterinary clinic. About a quarter mile further, she identifies Dr. Michael Blake walking on the opposing sidewalk, closest to the ocean, with two large dogs on leash. Both are ambling smoothly with him on three legs. One is a Labrador Retriever mix missing a front leg and the other is a German Shepherd mix missing a hind leg. Traffic is at a crawl and Dr. Blake happens to glance toward them. Pari averts her gaze just in time to pretend that she never noticed him.
