Chapter 24
Abby, feeling rushed, meanders around her cottage to ensure she has her keys, her doors and windows are locked, and Halo’s food and water bowls are fresh. Campbell Vaughn returns her call and she instinctively steps onto her back porch to explain her request. They hang up and Abby finds Pari, also ready to depart, as she returns to her living room.
“Okay, Campbell’s already there,” Abby says. “He said that, of course, he will make time immediately. You are ready now?”
“Yes, definitely.”
Abby’s mobile phone rings as she starts her car. Her touch screen indicates Miguel is the person calling. “Good morning. Can you come over right away?”
“We are just getting ready to leave to go meet Campbell. Is everything all right?”
“No, this is very urgent. You must come alone.”
