Gunshots shattered the crystal chandeliers the second Derek Valentino, my ex-fiancé , forced himself into the mafia dinner.
Only seconds earlier, Dominic had been parading me around the long table as his lawful wife like I was some trophy.
His hand rested possessive on my lower back as he introduced me to the East Coast mafia bosses. “This is my wife, Lila,” he announced, his voice calm and proud. Every man in the room turned to stare. Some nodded with respect. Others looked at me with curiosity and raw hunger, like they were already calculating how to take me away from him. I forced a small smile, my heart pounding, while trying so hard to look like I belonged in the arms of the strongest mafia boss on the East Coast.
the doors suddenly burst open.
Derek, my ex-fiancé, stood there with four armed men standing behind him, their guns raised, aiming directly at Dominic. “She belongs to me, Dominic Valencia! Not you!” he yelled, his eyes blazing with rage.
The room exploded into chaos.
Bullets ripped through the air. Glasses shattering into pieces. People screamed diving to take cover. Dominic threw his body over mine, slamming both of us to the floor behind one of the long table. His weight crushing breath out of me, but his arm stayed tightened around my waist so strong like steel.
“Stay down,” he rasped against my ear.
Another shot split into the air. I felt him flinch hard. Warm blood soaked through his shirt and onto my back. He’d been hit by a bullet.
“Dominic!” I gasped, my hands trembling as I started pressing against the wound on his side. My breathing ragged, fear taken over me completely.
Dominic didn’t bother answering with words. He lifted his head just enough to fire back twice. Clean, controlled shots. Two of my Derek’s men dropped to the floor dead.
The rest of the people in the room scrambled for cover, chairs overturning, plates crashing.
My ex kept screaming. “Lila is mine! You stole her from me!”
Dominic’s body never left mine. He shielded me completely, even as blood kept pouring from his side .
The gunfire stopped as fast as it started.
Derek was dragged away when Dominic's men flooded in, still screaming threats.
The remaining bosses stared at us in stunned silence.
Dominic rose slowly, blood dripping from his side, pulling me up with him. His arm never left my waist.
“Anyone who tries touching my wife Lila would have me to deal with.” He announced, his voice loud and steady despite the bullet wound on his side.
No one argued.
Dominic didn’t wait for a second as he began walking me out of the room like nothing had happened, blood leaving a dark trail on the marble floor.
The ride back to the penthouse was suffocatingly silent. His driver kept glancing in the rearview mirror, but Dominic just stared straight ahead, his jaw clenching. I sat close to him pressing a folded cloth against the wound,to stop the bleeding but blood kept pouring .
Inside the penthouse he finally let me go. He sank into the couch, his shirt soaked red.
“Don’t move I would be right back,” I said, my voice shaking. I ran to the bathroom, returning sterile towels and the emergency first-aid kit, and dropped to my knees in front of him. My fingers clumsy as I ripped the blood- soaked fabric away from his body.
He watched me with those dark eyes of his. The bullet had grazed his side a little bit deep, enough to bleed heavily but it wasn't fatal. My hands trembled while I cleaned the wound.
“You’re shaking,” he said quietly, his eyes not leaving mine.
“Yes because you took a bullet for me.” I whispered, dabbing the antiseptic against his open wound.
He caught my chin, forcing my eyes up to meet his. “That’s what I'm supposed to do, and from now onwards, you’re mine to protect.”
The words cracked open something inside me. I finished tightening the gauze wrap around his waist, but when I tried to pull back and stand, his hand shot out catching my hip and hauling me straight onto his lap. Adrenaline still pumping through both of us. I could feel it in the way his heart was hammering against my chest.
“Dominic, you’re hurt…you need to rest” I said, my voice filled with concern.
“I’m fine.” He said, his voice dropping low. He captured my lips in a hard, bruising kiss that kind tasted more like blood and survival. I kissed him back before I could stop myself. Every trace of my earlier terror twisted into a desperate, frantic need in my core. When his large hands slid up my thighs, parting them against his lap, my body responded before my mind could even protest.
He stood up with me still in his arms, carrying me in a bridal way to the bedroom even though blood still seeped slightly through the bandage. He laid me down on the bed climbing on top of me, while being mindful of his side. His hands pushed my dress up roughly, his fingers caressing my thighs. He rubbed my c**t and fingered me for while he took them out, licking his fingers clean.
“f**k,” he rasped against my neck.
My breathing came fast. He didn’t wait for another second, he brought out his d**k rubbed it on my c**t, before finally thrusting into me in one hard stroke. I gasped, my back arching forward. The s*x was a gentle, fast and desperate one, every thrust driven by the near-death rush from the dinner. My nails dug into the bedsheet. He groaned every time I clenched around him, the pain from his wound mixing with pleasure until neither of us could tell the difference.
I came hard, moaning out his name. He followed right after I had orgasmed, burying himself deep into my slick breathing fast against my skin.
For a minute we just lay there, our bodies still locked together, our hearts still racing.
He finally rolled off me and reached for his phone on the nightstand. I watched him through my half-closed eyes, my body still in the euphoria of the intense session we just had.
He typed something quickly, then set the phone down.
My eyes caught the notification preview on the screen before it went dark. A message to someone named “D” with a heart emoji.
Same phone I had seen the other twin use.
My stomach twisted. I waited until Dominic went into the bathroom to clean up, I slipped out of bed and tiptoed to the walk-in closet. My trembling fingers ran through the row of identical black suits lining the rack. I stopped abruptly when a scent from a particular set of suits in the rack hit my nose. It smelled like a different cologne; this scent was sharper and alluring than Dominic’s.
I closed the closet door fast, my back hit the closet, I slid down to the floor, my knees pulled to my chest. Tears welled up in my eyes I allowed it tickle down my cheek. The thought of how my life took this insanely radical turn filled my mind; starting from my drink getting spiked by own sister, to waking up in the bed of a dangerous mafia boss, my reputation ruined in one scandal that wasn't my fault, and being forced into the most ridiculous marriage contract ever, and just when I thought I'd seen the worst of it all, I finally got the shocker of my life I didn't just sleep one man, but two brothers. And now I'm stuck with them for God knows when.
The clicking sound of the snapped me out of my chain of thoughts, I quickly stood up wiping my eyes with my palm.
Dominic stepped out of the bathroom, he had fresh bandage on his side, seeing the look on my face. He frowned.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
I forced a small smile. “Nothing. Just… glad you’re okay.” i stammered.
He took me back into bed, tucking me against his chest like I belonged there. But I couldn’t stop thinking how I would be able to cope being entangled with these two men.
They weren’t sharing me.
They were fighting over who got to keep me.
And I'm
starting to realize I might just be the only one who thought I still had a choice.
