Chapter 4

Knox's POV I grabbed a clean blanket from the cabinet and covered Wren’s shoulders. She was still shaking and I hated that I was the reason she felt this way. “The examination has been done, Wren, and it’s confir—” “I know. I always knew.” She pulled the blanket tighter around herself without looking at me. “You didn’t need to do that, using me.” I didn’t have an answer so I didn’t give one. I reached out to help her off the table but she got down on her own. “Martha, the housemaid, has called Lira and my sister Bridget. They’ll take care of you and get you anything necessary you need.” She didn’t answer. I led her down the hallway to a room, unlocked it. I caught her staring at it for a long time before heading to the bed. It had clean furs. She sat at the edge of the bed and held the blanket to her chest so tight. She needed privacy. I could see that, so I turned to leave. *** I walked through the compound with my lips still bleeding from where Raze had hit me but I couldn’t stop tasting her on my tongue. Wren. Even her name was soft as a bird. I couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened… my face between her legs and how she had screamed my name when she came. I wanted to hear it again. I wanted to hear it every f*****g night. But she wasn’t mine yet. She was ours. I’ll make her fall for me and then I won’t have to care about the others having her as long as she only sets eyes on me. The compound was quiet. Most of the wolves were probably asleep or drunk or f*****g someone in the barracks. I passed by Father’s study and I could see Cain in there. I walked in and noticed Raze sitting on the leather couch with a glass of drink. He didn’t look at me when I walked in. Cain was behind the desk pretending as if he didn’t notice the tension. “How do you feel, hitting me for a w***e?” Raze said. I was expecting him to say it soon. “I’m here for the meeting Father called for us. Don’t bring it up to interrupt.” “Father said you should take her in for examination but instead you finger f****d her.” “Why are you angry brother? As far as I know, Wren didn’t complain about how I decided to check if she was a virgin or not. It’s standard.” Raze laughed while Father and Maddox looked at us like they were used to our usual fights. “Standard right? Like when Lira came to you with her panties in hand and you felt it was standard to let her ride your c**k because she was confused about her feelings. Even when you knew she was my girlfriend.” I felt my jaw tighten. He’s always bringing up what happened three years ago like I had stolen something from him. His girlfriend and his spotlight. Lira had come to me crying because Raze ignored her for weeks. She was drunk and lonely. I didn’t chase her. I didn’t even want her but Raze will never believe that. “Well. Wren isn’t your girlfriend. She’s a breeder that belongs to all of us.” Raze opened his mouth to answer when Father slammed his hand against the table. “Both of you, enough. You have bigger problems and all you do now is fight for a girl that just got in the house today. She’s nothing but an omega from the slums, so I see no reason why she will be fought for like she is something. She’s here to be a breeder. We have bigger problems to focus on.” He tossed the folders on the table and the photos spilled out. Photos of bikes from a familiar rival pack. “The Silver Court Riders,” Cain said. “They’ve been pushing into our territory for months. Last night they hit one of our warehouses on the Westfield borders.” Raze picked up a photo. He looked angry and suddenly concentrated. “How much did we lose?” “Fifty thousand in silver. Three of our wolves in the hospital while one is missing, which I’m sure is being taken to be tortured for information.” Cain looked at me. “The Riders are getting bolder and all you two can think of at this moment is a breeder.” I leaned against the wall, unbothered about pack wars. “So what do you want us to do?” Cain stood up and walked close to the windows. “There’s a competition next weekend. The annual circuit. Bike fights, the usual. The Riders will be there. Every MC in the region will be there. And I want us to win. Not just win. Dominate. Humiliate them on their own turf.” Raze cracked his knuckles. “I like that.” He always wanted to be first in command so impressing Father was one of his goals. “You’ll be fighting in the ring,” Cain said to Raze. “Knox, you’re on the bikes. Shooting. And Maddox… you’ll handle the security detail. Watch the Riders, see who they bring and try to find their weaknesses.” Maddox nodded, looking bored. Cain turned back to me and Raze. “The competition is in a month and I’m giving you all time to prepare.” Cain stood up to leave when Raze stopped him. “Father, I have a proposition to make.” I looked at him wondering what he was up to this time. “Since the breeder is here to give us pups that will continue our bloodline, as they say the first heir always matters. That means whoever wins her first gets his heir on that spot.” He turned to me with a smirk on his face. “Let’s come up with a game between all three brothers. First to make her fall and deflower her wins.” “What the f**k, she’s not a tool and has nothing to do with the competition we have at hand…” I said, my fists so tight I wanted to punch Raze so hard right now. “Thinking about it… this is about control. A healthy competition between brothers as well sharpens the claws.” Raze grinned. Everyone else looked at Maddox. “What do I get if I win?” he said, lifting his head from the desk. It felt like he had started sleeping already. Cain raised his eyebrow. “What do you want?” “To be out of pack business and out of the ruling committee.” Father’s eyes went wide for a second before turning cold again. “We will talk about that, Maddox. So as it stands, we have two competitions. One to f**k the omega first and the other against our rivals.” “Now get out. All of you.” I walked out of the door, slamming it without caring if the others were coming out. How can they use Wren as a tool for their mind games? I walked toward my room. As I opened my phone to check the camera I had slipped in her room, she was fast asleep. No matter. I won’t let Raze f*****g use her that way and abandon her like Lira. No f*****g way.
