Cass We had been searching all day. Nothing. The task was insurmountable. Canada alone had over 30,000 lakes, and that didn’t take into account it could very well be a lake in the Northeastern United States instead. A fresh blossom of hopelessness split my chest, and I sighed. River’s hands were in the water, and her eyes were closed. She was searching. But for what? Witches had looked for this supposed army of the dead for hundreds of years. What made it realistic that we would find it now? I didn’t even know why we all had to be here, anyway.
