Sanath's first book had involved writing to save his own life. His second book involved writing despite the danger it posed to his life.
Over the last few days, Sanath had finally gathered the guts to open his notebook in the violent barrack. Just like the praying man, this attracted the attention of the bullies in the vicinity. One of them had attempted to tear his book into pieces, and this prompted Sanath to use force for the first time since he had killed Deep.
