The next night, the Peaches lost in the bottom of the ninth but they took two games in Greenville and felt satisfied heading back to Georgia following a 3–1 road trip. But then the team bus blew a tire Sunday night on I-85, and the 223 miles back to Macon took six hours instead of four. The bus didn’t pull into Luther Williams Field until 4:00 a.m. The next morning, Concannon was dozing in his office when Ziggy Dale, public relations/promotions director for the Peaches, burst through the door. “Don’t you knock?
