Maddy's mind was racing as she made her way back to her tent. Experimental treatment? What could that possibly mean?
She couldn't shake the feeling that something sinister was going on. She had to get to the bottom of it.
As she entered her tent, Maddy noticed a piece of paper on her bedside table. It was a note, scribbled in hasty handwriting.
"Meet me at the old oak tree at midnight. Come alone."
Maddy's heart skipped a beat as she wondered who could have written the note. And what did they want with her?
Despite her reservations, Maddy felt a thrill of excitement. She had to know what was going on.
At midnight, Maddy made her way to the old oak tree, her heart pounding in her chest. As she approached the tree, a figure emerged from the shadows.
It was one of the nurses from the hospital, a quiet and reserved woman named Emma.
"Maddy, I'm so glad you came," Emma said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I've been wanting to talk to you about the treatment."
Maddy's eyes narrowed. "What treatment?"
Emma hesitated, looking around nervously. "The experimental treatment. I've seen some strange things, Maddy. Things that can't be explained."
Maddy's heart was racing now. "What kind of things?"
Emma leaned in close. "I've seen patients who were on the brink of death suddenly recover. And I've seen others...others who have been changed somehow."
Maddy's eyes widened. "Changed? What do you mean?"
Emma's voice dropped to a whisper. "I've seen them become...stronger. Faster. More agile. It's as if they've been...altered somehow."
Maddy's mind was reeling. Altered? What could that possibly mean?
She knew she had to get to the bottom of this. She had to know what was going on.
"Emma, I need you to take me to where they're administering this treatment," Maddy said, her voice firm.
Emma nodded, a look of determination on her face. "I'll take you. But we have to be careful. We don't know what we're dealing with here."
Maddy nodded, her heart pounding with excitement and fear. She was in this now, and she was determined to see it through to the end.
