Cole POV I adjusted my bow tie, feeling like a stranger in my skin. The tuxedo fit perfectly, but it was a reminder of the life I’d left behind. I looked dashing, or so I’d been told. The tailored jacket accentuated my broad shoulders, and the trousers hugged my legs in all the right places. But I didn’t feel like myself. I felt like an imposter. The hospital was a familiar ground for me, a place where I hid from all that plagued me. My work was the only respite I got from the pain I felt deep within me. In order to forget how my family treated me, I threw myself into my work, desperate for a distraction. I made my way to the pop up bar, my eyes scanning the crowded room with disinterest.
