“Terrifying little kids now, are we?” she accused before he could say whatever his eyes were hinting at.
A conversation she wouldn't like, for sure.
Logan looked at the departing girl and back at Lorraine. “What? Of course not. She told you that?”
“She didn't have to,” she said, even knowing she sounded unfair.
The girl's nervousness could have meant anything.
“No, we just talked. It was somewhat… uncomfortable, but she's a good girl. I was coming to look for you so we can…”
“Does anyone else have the teleportation ability?” she threw at him, anything to stave off the inevitable.
“What?” he echoed in confusion. “Why are you asking that?”
Lorraine folded her arms and levelled her gaze on him. “Answer the question, Alpha."
Still baffled by her question, Logan answered, “Not in the pack right now. It has always been the alpha blood ability.”
So, anyone in the alpha family could.
“Is any of your family here now?”
“Why are we talking about this?”
She simply waited.
“No,” he answered forcefully. “I am an only child and my parents are gone. They also…” He paused like he had just remembered something. “Well, I have an uncle, but no one has seen him in ages. He wanted nothing to do with the curse and left long before my parents died.”
If her theory were right, who then was…?
“Lorraine, I don't see how my abilities are more important than the burning discussion we should…”
“Are you sure someone else does not have that ability?” she interrupted smoothly.
“Lorraine!” he gritted out, knowing what she was trying to do.
Lorraine supposed he wouldn't be put off now.
So she shrugged and said, “Well, let's have your talk. It's not as if I have anything better to do anyway. Been kidn*pped…”
“kidn*pped?!” he echoed in shock.
Lorraine supposed that was going a bit too far. Still, she shrugged and asked blandly, “Would you prefer adult-napped?”
“What are you talking about?”
"This," she jerked her hand around, encompassing the pack. “You bundled me off to the middle of nowhere. Used your whoosh ability and now I don't even know where I am, let alone getting out of here. You won't accept my rejection…”
“That is not an option,” he countered calmly.
Too calmly. It sparked her anger all over again.
She stalked to him, drilling her finger into his chest as she said, “You don't get to tell me about options. You have no right. You have a child, for goddess's sake. A child. If you want a Luna so badly, get her mother. I won't be…”
His finger curled around hers, a hint of his smirk returning as he brought the finger to his mouth.
Lorraine was momentarily dumbfounded by his behaviour that she stared at him with a frown.
Then he dipped her finger into his mouth.
Molten heat shot through Lorraine as he sucked on her finger.
She jerked her hand out of his grip, eyes wary as she snapped, “What is wrong with you? How can you…?”
“Show you you're the only woman I want? That's just my way of saying there's no need to be jealous, Lorraine. You are the one I want.”
“Jealous?” she sputtered, sure she had never heard anything so absurd before. “I am not jealous, you…”
“Speak for yourself,” Kiara countered in a sad tone. “I am jealous of a woman I have not even seen. He has a pup with her, Lorraine. That's a bond. What if he marks her?”
Wasn't that what Lorraine wanted? Anything that would make him accept her rejection?
But the fact that she couldn't even say that instantly made her feel odd.
Logan saw the conflicted look on her face and his teasing grin vanished.
“I am sorry, Lorraine. This is not fair to you at all. I want to make things right, please?”
Make things right? How?
Anxiety flickered on his face when she only kept looking at him.
His voice was urgent as he moved closer to her. “Let's talk, okay?”
