You Should See Her

“What do you mean you… found her!” Logan's fingers scraped through his hair as he watched the maids rush out. “I will go too, Alpha,” Damien, his beta, said. He nodded and his beta left. A headache was building at the base of his skull. He could feel eyes on him. Ears waiting for his decision, and he could barely wrap his head around the whole thing. A pup? How the f**k did he have a pup he never knew about? “Like this,” he thought, self-deprecating, as he looked down at the paper in his hand. The paper was slightly dirty and rumpled, but the writing was clear as day. I am sorry it took this long for me to find you. Solana is the result of that night. I don't want to do this, but a rogue life is not for her. With you, she has a chance of a better life. Don't try to find me. You won't. I am sorry. - Elaine “She's sorry? She is…?” Logan wished he could see her right then so he could show her just how sorry she would be. The only Elaine he remembered was his friend's girlfriend in college. They were not close, but she had come to him one evening to help resolve the problems she was having with Chad. Logan had no idea what happened that evening, but he woke up groggy and achy the next morning. He had not seen her again since then. Chad soon died in a car accident just before graduation, and that was it. How could Elaine show up almost six years later with a pup that was supposedly his? No, the b***h did not even bother showing her face. She just dumped the child at his border with a note. A note! “Alpha, what are you going to do?” Matilda, one of the elders, asked, drawing Logan's attention back to the present. “Do? Of course, I am going to get the girl back to wherever she came from. I don't have a child. I just found my…” Logan blanched as he remembered Lorraine. Fuck. This cannot be happening. As it was, his only fated mate was already bent on rejection. Bringing her here was supposed to be a way to persuade her to give him a chance. But now? No. That child is not staying. He would find Elaine no matter the cave she crawled to and make sure she spits out the truth! He noticed the way the elders were looking at each other. “What?” he snapped, in no mood for games. “Have you seen the kid, Alpha?” “What does that have to do with anything? I am telling you, I have no kid!” They all bowed their heads under his impatient tone. Then Matilda, always the boldest, looked straight at him and said, “I think you should see the girl first before sending her away, Alpha.” “And I think you have too much time on your hands,” he retorted. “Why not use that energy to think of ways to revive this pack now that the curse has been lifted?” They all nodded without a comeback. “And not a word of this to my mate. She's new here and I want you all to welcome and treat her as your Luna. She's not to hear of this nonsense. Are we clear?” The door jerked open just then. Logan frowned at Damien's hurried entry. “What's the rush?” he asked in disapproval. “Sorry, Alpha. The girl. We found her. She's with…” Dressed in the same leather combat clothes she arrived with, Lorraine strode in just behind Damien. Damien immediately moved out of her way. Logan's heart thumped at the sheer brilliance of her face. She was an unconventional beauty, with features that did not quite agree. Yet it suited her to perfection. His beta general. It took him a second to recognise the banked fiery light in her eyes, even as her frosty tone dropped the room temperature. “What exactly am I not to find out, Alpha?” The emphasis on his title was pure mockery that made everyone present shift uncomfortably. Logan's attention had shifted to something else, though. Something tightened in his chest as he saw her. The little girl standing just behind Lorraine.
