CHAPTER FOURTEEN

1216 Words
Elena’s POV The man on the screen moved, not a memory or a recording but real and alive. My breath came out unevenly. “No…” I whispered. Everything inside me was unraveling. My father, the man I thought I had lost, the man I barely remembered was standing there as if he had never left. “Elena.” His voice came through the speakers, calm and familiar. And suddenly the world tilted. Flashback A younger version of me sat across a chessboard, small hands gripping a white piece. “Think before you move,” his voice said gently. “I am thinking,” I replied stubbornly. He smiled. “No, you’re reacting.” I frowned. “What’s the difference?” He leaned forward. “Thinking means you control the board.” “Reacting means someone else already does.” Elena‘s POV (Present) I gasped softly as the memory hit me like a wave. Then another flash of training, strategy, and lessons I didn’t even know I had learned. My knees weakened slightly but Ethan’s hand steadied me instantly. “Hey… stay with me,” he said. His voice grounded me and pulled me back but everything had changed. I wasn’t just Elena anymore. I looked up at the screen. “Why?” I asked. My voice trembled but not from fear but from anger. “Why did you hide all this from me?” My father watched me quietly. “Because you weren’t ready.” The answer snapped something inside me. “Ready for what?” “For this,” he said simply. Ethan’s POV Nothing made sense anymore, Elena’s father was alive. Davis is betraying me. Marcus is working for someone else. And yet the only thing I cared about in that moment was her. She looked like she was standing between two worlds. The woman I married and someone far more dangerous. “You knew this would happen,” I said to the screen. Her father didn’t deny it. “Yes.” My jaw tightened. “You placed people around me.” “To protect her,” he said “You manipulated my empire.” “To stabilize it,” he added I let out a quiet, humorless laugh. “So this was never my empire.” His gaze sharpened. “It still is.” I didn’t believe that. Not anymore. Marcus Hale’s POV This was the moment everything shifted, no more shadows or half-truths. “Elena,” I said. She turned to me slowly. “You deserve the full truth.” Her eyes were steady and stronger now. “Then tell me.” I nodded once. “I wasn’t just sent to observe you.” “I was assigned years ago.” “To watch over you.” “To intervene if necessary.” Ethan’s gaze snapped toward me. “You’ve been in my world for years?” “Yes.” “And you never said anything?” “It wasn’t my mission.” Elena stepped closer. “And now?” Now exists differently. “Now you’re awake.” The words hung heavy in the air. Vanessa’s POV This was not how it was supposed to go. Elena wasn’t breaking, she wasn’t falling apart but she was rising and I hated it. “You think this changes anything?” I snapped. Elena turned toward me slowly. And for the first time, I felt a shift. Something cold, controlled, and calculated. “No,” she said quietly. “It changes everything.” My stomach tightened. “Don’t pretend you understand this world.” Her gaze didn’t waver. “I was raised in it.” The confidence in her voice made something crack inside me. “No,” I said. “You were protected from it.” Her eyes darkened. “Not anymore.” Daniel’s POV I had never seen Elena like this, She wasn’t reacting or emotional rather she was thinking and calculating, just like Vanessa. “Elena,” I said carefully. “Be careful.” She glanced at me. “I am.” Vanessa scoffed. “This is pointless.” She lifted her chin. “You can’t win this.” Elena tilted her head slightly. “Why not?” She asked “Because I’ve been planning this for years.” A pause. Then Elena smiled faintly. “But you made one mistake.” Vanessa’s expression tightened. “What mistake?” Elena’s voice dropped. “You reminded me who I am.” There was silence. Dead silence. Elena’s POV Everything was clearer now. The fear, confusion, and chaos were gone and replaced by something sharper, stronger, and in control. I turned toward the screen again. “You said I wasn’t ready.” My father nodded. “Yes.” I lifted my chin. “What about now?” A pause. Then….. “For the first time…” “…you are.” My heart steadied then I turned to Ethan, He was watching me carefully and trying to understand who I was becoming. “Do you trust me?” I asked him. The question was simple. But it carried everything, the past, the lies, and the war. Ethan didn’t hesitate. “Yes.” He answered. That answer hit deeper than anything else. I nodded once. Then turned back to Vanessa. “This ends tonight.” Vanessa laughed. “You think you can stop me?” “No,” I said calmly. “I know I can.” Her smile faded slightly. And for the first time, Vanessa looked unsure. Ethan’s POV I didn’t know this version of Elena, but I trusted her completely. Which was either the smartest decision I had ever made or maybe the most dangerous. “What’s your plan?” I asked quietly. She didn’t look at me. “First…” Her gaze moved to Davis. “We deal with betrayal.” Davis stiffened. “Elena….” “You don’t get to speak yet.” Her tone was calm, cold, and controlled. Even Marcus looked impressed. “Second,” she continued. She turned toward Marcus. “You choose your side.” Marcus didn’t hesitate. “I already did.” Her eyes held his. “Say it.” Silence. “Then I’m on your side.” And this time, it was the truth. Finally, I looked at Vanessa. “Third…” “This war ends with you.” Vanessa’s expression hardened again. “You really believe that?” I stepped forward slowly. “Yes.” Because now I understood something she didn’t. This wasn’t her game anymore. It was mine. The lights in the tower suddenly shut off, and then there was complete darkness that swallowed the room. Emergency systems failed, and even the screen went black. Davis cursed under his breath. “This isn’t part of the plan.” Marcus’s voice went sharp. “No… it isn’t.” A slow clap echoed in the darkness. A new voice came, unfamiliar, but dangerous. “Impressive.” The lights flickered back on. A man stood near the entrance, he was unknown but calm and watching all of us, and smiling. Ethan stepped slightly in front of him, his voice low and brutal as he stared at the stranger. “Who the hell are you… And why are you in my war?”
