Preface

176 Words
Tetrachromacy: The quality of having four independent channels for conveying color information in the eye. Ever heard of the phrase, "A picture is worth 1,000 words?" This is something that could very well be true. When a typical person looks at a picture and tries to understand the meaning and story the artist is trying to covey, they could probably describe the picture with 1,000 words, usually less though as who has time to talk that long about a single picture. If you were to ask a Tetrachromatic though, there wouldn't be enough words in the dictionary to describe what they see. Due to an additional cone in their eye, they are able to see 100 times more colors than the average person. It is said that approximately 12% of women (significantly less for men) may have this extra cone. The problem is, if you have never seen the world with less, how do you know that you are seeing more? Either way, be you Trichromatic or Tetrachromatic, it can be agreed that the colors we do see can be beautiful.
