He had been collected from the Peninsula New York Hotel on Fifth Avenue and whisked twenty-five miles north of the city to a spot alongside the Hudson River. During the hour-long journey, there had been no exchanges between either the driver or his companion, until they entered the estate’s large entrance gates and swept up the quarter-mile long drive.
