*Chapter Six: Where Light Finds Us*

338 Words
There are moments in life that don’t announce themselves. They don’t come with music, or fireworks, or signs. They arrive in silence — like the morning sun creeping over the edge of a broken roof. For Amina, that moment came on a Tuesday afternoon. She was helping her aunt cook when a neighbor arrived in distress. Her daughter had collapsed — feverish and unconscious. Without waiting for instructions, Amina ran. Nasir followed behind her, knowing wherever she ran, something important was happening. At the local clinic, the nurses were overwhelmed. Amina stepped in. She wiped the girl’s face. Held her hand. Offered comfort the way no one ever taught her — but the way life had demanded. “She’ll be okay,” she whispered. The little girl blinked. The girl who once trembled when spoken to now stood like a pillar for others. He had always seen it in her — a light not meant to burn bright for attention, but steady for those who had lost their way. “You’re changing lives,” he said. She looked at him, confused. “Even if you don’t see it,” he added. “You're someone's light.” She didn’t cry. Not this time. She simply said, “So are you.” And it was true. *** Later that evening, Amina took a long walk alone. She thought of her mother again. She thought of the friend who left her when she was falsely accused. She thought of the teacher who had apologized. She thought of the pain… but also the healing. Then, under a streetlamp, she whispered: “I’m still here.” That was all. But it meant everything. Because she now knew: light doesn’t always come from above. Sometimes, it’s born inside the darkest places — in quiet courage, in choosing to care, in refusing to disappear. ---
