Nick had texted me earlier in the day, inviting me for lunch in his office under the excuse of discussing work. I knew better, of course. Work was just a reason. He wanted to see me, and if I was being honest, I wanted to see him too. So when lunch break came around, I hurriedly made my way to the executive floor, trying not to look too eager, even though I knew my heart was betraying me with its steady, nervous thumping.
