Child is the heir

I wanted to know what was so special about me and why, someone like him, would want to pay this outrageous sum of cash to a stranger that, even with the background check done, still didn't know all that much. "Why me, out of anyone you could get? And why that much money?" I asked and immediately followed up. "I know you have billions, but regardless of that fact, fifty million dollars, just to carry your child, is still an insane amount of money. He dropped the contract again on the desk that was sitting between us and sighed. "Why you? Well I could sit here and lie to you, tell you things that would make you feel good. But in all honesty, it could have easily been the girl that was sitting next to you. I've wanted to have a child for quite some time now and when I saw you, something just clicked. It doesn't happen very often but when it does, it's like suddenly, your eyes are open and there's this picture flashing in front of you. A picture of your future, something you've dreamed about." He stopped and ran his fingers through his hair. "I don't know if any of that makes sense, but that's how I can explain it. I go with my gut and my gut picked you." He reached for the file again. I wasn't sure what to make of this all but somehow, I understood what he had meant. "Fifty million dollars is very generous. Most people would die to have a chance like this." He laughed. "I am a very generous man, especially to the woman who will carry my child. It's a big deal. That child will most likely be my heir." There was something about the man that was different, and that something was what I was trying to find. I was known to scare away from men, but him.... him. what was it about this one that had me thinking it was okay to let a few of my guards down already? Albeit, not many. I opened the file and started reading. "Ethan Williams ?" I asked, a laugh slipping from my lips, unintentionally of course. "Who did this to you?" "I'll have to let you know that Williams is an old family name dating back to my great great great grandfather." He explained, his eyes still glued to the contract in front of him. "The same can't be said for you, Alice Smith." He then looked up. "Now, what were you parents thinking when they gave you this name?" He smirked, daring me to say more. But I didn't want to say more. I lost interest the minute he mentioned my parents and this godawful name. "Can we start please?" I asked as irritation was clearly prominent in my voice, I wasn't trying hide it though. He looked at me for a few second, trying to figure out why my mood turned sour so quick. I wasn't going to talk about it because the minute I start, it would be like uncovering a web of deeply hidden secrets related to this single name that I would rather never speak about. I did a lot of speaking about it with Lily I was now done. "I think we should start with the most obvious thing here. The pay. I dug a little and it came to my knowledge that you had only recently graduated from college. I also found out that you were not eligible for much financial aid since your family is fairly wealthy." He started, but this was a subject I would rather not touch. My face hardened. "I would rather not talk about my family." "Noted." He cleared his throat but other than that, he proceeded. "So, like I said, I did some digging..." He had every right to dig into my life. A million dollars was simply too much money. Yet still, I felt a little violated. Shouldn't he have had let me know first? How much did he know already? And how deep did he dig? Some things in my past are better left hidden for my sanity. He was still talking, so I tried to listen carefully. "I would give you a quarter of the money now-" he was saying but I cut him off by my surprised. "Now?" I asked as the word that came out of my mouth were filled with barely hidden excitement. I had bills upon bills to take care of and this much money to land in my bank account would be the perfect time. "As soon as you sign this contract, I'll call my accountant and the money would be deposited into your bank account." He explained and tried to keep my focus on him, which was harder as I was internally buzzing. This could possibly be one of the worst decisions I've taken in my life, but for some insane reason, I was willing. "Something is the matter?" He asked and I shook my head and told him to carry on. He studied me for a few seconds longer before continuing. "As stated in the contract, you'll receive another quarter when you are pregnant, then another once you hit the five months mark. The the last payment would be transferred when you give birth to the child." I cleared my throat. Yeah, this part was what I knew would have to eventually happen and that part was scary. I could die giving birth. Yet again, with all I had been through, if I'm still alive, I'm sure I could do this and also be okay. "If unfortunately something was to happen and the child is not born, this contract requires you to be available for another try until you successfully deliver my child. Of course money would be added if that was to happen." "How much?" I asked. "half a million dollars." He answered nonchalantly flipping to another page. I choked on my saliva. "Fuck." My voice coming out hoarse. I was in utter amazement. "You also agree to be vigorously tested for any sort of diseases and/or illnesses, physical and psychological. And most and for all, you are to never be intimate with anyone while in the process and while carrying my child." "Trust me, you'll never have to worry about this," I laughed bitterly while dismissing that statement. "That's unlikely to ever happen." I told him as I skimmed through the pages of the contract, twenty five pages in total to be exact. Dear God. "Great, hopefully you keep up with your part of the agreement." He added which made me look up to find his serious face watching me. "Hopefully you do the same, Milton." I smiled because even though this was a serious matter, I couldn't believe someone would actually do this to their child. The name was awful. He nodded and got up, extending his arm toward me. "In that case, if everything is settled, we should sign and shake on it." I got up before shaking his hand. "Let's hope this works out for the best." I said and he smiled at that. "Yes, let's hope." He agreed. I just couldn't wait to get out of there and run home.
