Chapter 6

Emma's POV

I ran frantically out of the hotel , as the same memory kept coming back . Cole's face grinning wickedly, a machete in hand , nearer and nearer cussing at me.

His insults a constant reminder of the wrong decisions I made in my life. His painful insults like a dagger constantly stabbing my frail heart. That's why I ran, because I saw another Cole inform of Cain Powers infront of me.

One that would beat me up every night he came home. Lock me up in chains , burn my skin with a curling iron, I was scared to death. My heart nudging me to run further and further even though I knew nothing of my surroundings.

People constantly watching me, made me scared, scared that at any time Cole would jump out and hurt me. My heart which thumped so loud wouldn't lemme think for a minute and that's when I looked up only to see a black SUV coming my way at an excruciating speed and I knew I was a goner!

I lay down on the cold heavily tarmacked road blood oozing profusely from my head. I tilted my head to where the SUV was , a man clad in a cream tailored suit rushing towards me , then I blacked out.....

Cain's POV

After the embarrassment I went through earlier , servants constantly checking me out because of the tight shirt I had on ,I took a relaxing shower. Clad on a pair of jeans and a blue denim shirt.

Minutes later , the hotel manager called me up to inform me that Mr Yakama was in the lobby so I rushed out . You're not getting away from me ,old man!

Getting to the elevator doors ,I called Millers . This woman was peculiar at times , how long does it take to pick up the damn phone. Opportunity had just reared its head and I was sure there was no way Mr Yakama would reject my offer, I followed him all the way to Australia !!

Speaking of women here comes one, constantly texting and calling me. Kendalla ! I had ignored her all morning , she's quite the handful , nagging and braggadacious . Just another time wasted talking about her utterly nonsensical fashion shows.

Finally , Millers picked up her phone and I clearly instructed her to come with the Yakama files to the lobby. I had a feeling today was my lucky day and the old man would finally sell the ranch over to us.

Immediately the elevator doors opened , I caught a sight of him and approached him in the kindest way possible not to raise any suspicions of my stalking acts to him.

"Cain Powers , you decided to take a vacation too?" He asked greeting me politely.

" Yeah Mr Yakama, thought it'd be nice to take a leave from work , " I lied .

" I might be old , son but I ain't dumb. You are stalking me aren't you? If it's about my ranch , let's talk about it, no need to beat around the bush , " he said patting my shoulder.

I was tongue tied , well then we might as well get to the point. It's clear he knew what I wanted and i would cross any lengths just to get that ranch !

"Well , look Mr Yakama I thought we had a done deal , I don't understand why you suddenly have to back out from it." I spoke timidly.

" It was a done deal ,but once my wife saw your playboy acts on the media ,she refused to sell that ranch.

Look that ranch ,holds precious memories to us ,she wants to make sure you are responsible before handing that ranch to you , on a silver platter," he said plainly.

But how the heck was my personal life , related to our merger? Was he refusing to sell that ranch to me simply because of his wife ,come on he should have a say in matters as such not the wife! Perhaps the media liked spewing garbage in the internet just to tarnish someone's name.

"You know me , my playboy acts are in the past let's dwell on the future ," I said.

" Really?? Son, hours ago, the paparazzi caught a glimpse of you with some famous model from Brazil. So don't you dare lie to me, "he retorted.

Well this turned out to be the worst conversation in history. Damn he's giving me a hard time. Nothing was going on, between me and Kendalla , absolutely nothing.

"I assure you she's an acquaintance , nothing more.." I hadn't finished the statement when Kendalla came up to me hugging and kissing me infront of Mr Yakama.

Just what I needed! He eyed me angrily before greeting my secretary and walking away.

There goes my signature!! How dare she bring Kendalla along ??!!

Pulling her aside I tried getting some sense in her thick head! Then all over sudden her eyes became teary, she started calling out the name , 'Cole' and when she told me to stop hurting her that's when I realized that my fingers had dug deep into her pale skin so I let go and see ran out hysterically sobbing.

Hours fleetingly floated like the morning fog that drifted with the wind and yet no sign of her.

Marlon had informed me that she ran out of the hotel all delirious and scared out of her wits. Suddenly a pang of guilt engulfed me , never in my life had I hurt a woman before, I was also shocked after realizing what I had done.

I paced around in my room , Kendalla seated on my bed , showing no kind of remorse for any sort of thing that had happened. This was my fault!!

Where the heck was my secretary ? Maybe she had gotten lost in this country new and strange to her. Damn it ,Cain !! Did you have to lash out at her like that ,man?!!

I was in the middle of my thoughts when someone called

Am I talking to Cain Powers ?

Yes this is he...

It's about Emma Millers ,she was rushed to the hospital hours ago ..
