Damien

‘He got away, Alpha’ Damien reported. ‘We chased him as far as the dirt road at the edge of the property, but he got into a vehicle and we lost his sent.’ The Alpha drummed his fingers on the desk. These events were getting more frequent, with today's incident so close to the Packhouse. It was clear this was no random attack by a pack of Rouge wolves but a well-organised plan. Today had been a show of power, they had come a few feet from the house and threatened a member of the Alpha’s family. The thought of how close they had come to the house, to Tory. He paced the study, wanting/needing something to release the tension in his body and wolf. They had come close to hurting or kidnapping her, he clenched his fists at the possibilities. Logan Whined, he needed to see her smell her and be near her, hide her away from the world and keep her safe. He could feel the soft touch of her lips against his, the taste of her delectable mouth still lingered on his tongue. After that kiss, it was all he had been able to think about, he had sat next to her at dinner not tasting any of the food he had shovelled into his mouth. Her nearness drove him insane with need, to hold her in his arms once again. He had felt Sebastien's anger through their link. Sebastien found it hard to control his wolf, who wanted nothing more than to claim her, but what made him angry was his jealousy upon seeing Damien kiss Tory. ‘I assume you are the one that made up this file, Sebastien handed to me last night?’ Graham said as he pulled out the folder he had in the top draw of his desk. ‘Yes Alpha, I’ve been keeping surveillance on them for the past month’ he confirmed ‘There have been some activities that don’t add up, nothing concrete yet.’ The folder contained a list of Pack members that he and Sebastien had compiled. Days after the Alpha had announced his Human mate to the pack, whispers reached Damien of members who believed the Alpha was becoming too weak to lead. ‘There are some people on this list that I’ve considered friends’ Graham mused, more to himself than to Damien. ‘If they really are involved in this I really am not fit to be the Alpha of this pack.’ ‘Alpha, the dealings of a few rouge wolves, does not demean the work you’ve done to keep us safe’ Damien reassured. ‘Yes, but I also see that I never suspected any deception from them. A good Alpha also sees when he’s no longer fit to run his Pack.’ Graham closed the file and tucked it away. ‘We need to figure out who is behind this as soon as possible, they are going after my Mate and her daughter.’ Damien’s fists went even tighter. The memory of how close they had been to Tory. If he hadn’t come gone out at that moment, would they have taken her, hurt her? The mere idea of it infuriated him, making it hard to control his wolf who wanted to jump out and seek their mate. The minute he stepped out of the house, he was hit with the smell of rogue wolves. He’d linked Sebastien and was about to shift when another scent hit him, Tory! Tory’s fear was palpable, only the strong stench of a rogue wolf and imminent danger momentarily blindsiding his senses. Their link had still been open, and Sebastien had sensed Tory’s distress as soon as he had. He sensed Sebastien’s struggle not to go to their mate, but even his wolf knew she would be safe with him. His wolf Logan had almost taken over when he recognised their mates' scent. It took all he had to stop Logan from taking over, it took Damien reminding him that Tory didn’t know about them and would be scared, for Logan to stop shifting. By the time he reached Tory, he was in his back to his human form. At the time his mind couldn’t process much beyond getting her out of danger, he knew Sebastien had gone after the rouge, but he needed to go for back up in case this was a trap. When he reached her, he could feel the emotions radiating out of her. He had smelled her fear from afar, but upon seeing her, he could sense the confusion radiating out of her. Her body didn’t portray her feelings of the situation, she looked calm, but he could see her mind eyes looking for an escape. The rouge was far enough that no human would be able to detect him, but somehow Tory had sensed the danger. He couldn’t help the feeling of pride that came over him. Human mates were rare, they were too weak and possessed none of their preservation instincts, but their mate could sense the danger. He was proud of her at that moment but also angry that she hadn’t tried to run. It angered him she had not alerted them, true she didn’t know they would be able to hear her screams, but at that moment he wasn't thinking reasonably. He reached her in no time and was prepared to handle a scared human, but Tory surprised him again. Instead of the scream and fear, what he got was a sigh of relief. He barely caught her in time as her legs gave out, she didn’t look surprised to see him. It’s like she knew who he was before she saw him. He didn’t know what to expect from a human mate if she had been a werewolf; this reaction wouldn’t surprise him as her wolf would smell or sense him through the link. ‘What are you doing out here alone?’ he was angry at the idea of her wandering the woods alone, he felt her tense up in his arms and instantly regretted his tone of voice. With one arm already supporting her back, he put the other under her knees and lifted her into his arms. They came face to face for the first time that morning, he started making his way towards the house. ‘I came for a walk’ she told him ‘Umm, you can put me down’ after a while. The smell and feel of her so close, after the fear he had felt, was driving him crazy with the need to hide her away. Not trusting his voice, he decided not to reply to her. He only let go of her once they reached the side entrance of the house. He told her to go inside and knowing she would follow his orders, he turned around and left to go after Sebastien. Just out of sight, he let Logan take over. He’d heard her walk into the house and close the door. Sebastien told him he was at the dirt road that crossed the property, and the rouges had made their escape. They Searched the area, making sure that no stone was left unturned. After thirty minutes of searching, both Logan and Axel were restless to check on their mate. Leaving the pack beta in charge of carrying on with the search, they went back to the house. When they finally arrived at the dining room, Tory was already sitting at the table. Sebastien walked in and sat next to her. Leaving him with the task of reporting what they had found to Graham. ‘We will find whoever is behind these attacks’ He reassured his Alpha. ‘They won’t hurt a single hair on their heads’ Graham looked at him as if he knew what was happening between them but not mentioning the situation. He wasn’t ready to go into details about his mate and how Sebastien was destined to share her with him. Pairings of three weren’t unheard of, twins were destined to share one mate, but their situation was slightly different. He and Sebastien weren’t related, and Damien hadn’t originally belonged to the Bowland pack. He had never heard of mating where all three were unrelated by blood. ‘Go have breakfast, let me know if any development happens’ Graham turned to face his screen. ‘Of course Alpha’ He bowed his head before leaving the study.
