Lucas POV
Days had slipped away, and still, there was no word from Anabel. I couldn't help but replay the video clip Michael had shown her, where I had rejected Anabel as my mate. I began to wonder if there was any chance of her ever accepting me back into her life. Remorse and guilt were slowly creeping in, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I had made an enormous mistake. What if I had handled things differently? What if I had listened to Anabel instead of shutting her out? These questions echoed in my mind, and I felt like I had committed the gravest error of my life.
In an attempt to clear my head and find a way to make amends with Anabel, I decided to take a walk. As I strolled down the bustling streets, I couldn't help but appreciate the beauty of the metropolis around me. The vibrant lights, the teeming crowd, the crisp air – everything felt simultaneously surreal and genuine. With each step, I reminisced about the first time I met Anabel. It was at a nearby coffee shop. She sat alone, and I could sense she was having a rough day. I offered to buy her a cup of coffee, and from that moment, we became inseparable. We shared our dreams, fears, and secrets. But now, all of that hung in the balance due to my foolish mistake.
Suddenly, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. It was a message from Anabel, and my heart raced as I read it. "Can we talk?" she asked. Without hesitation, I replied, "Yes, where would you like to meet?"
"The same coffee shop where we first met."
My heart pounded as I hurried to the coffee shop. When I arrived, I saw Anabel seated at the very table where our journey began. She looked as beautiful as ever, but there was something different about her, something I couldn't quite pinpoint.
"Hey," I greeted nervously as I took a seat across from her.
"Hey," she responded, her eyes holding a mix of sadness and anger. "I know I messed up, Anabel. I should have listened to you instead of making assumptions. I'm sorry for hurting you, and I want you to know that I still care about you. I love you," I confessed, hoping for her forgiveness.
"I love you too, Lucas," she replied, tears streaming down her face. "But you hurt me, and it's not something I can just forget. I need time to think about things, and I don't know if I can trust you again."
"I understand, Anabel. I'll do whatever it takes to make things right with you. I'll give you all the time you need. I said, feeling relieved that she still had passions for me. We sat there in silence for many moments, lost in our own studies. As we left the coffee shop, I knew that there was still a long way to go before effects could be back to how they were, but I was willing to do whatever it took to make effects right with Anabel. In the following days, Anabel and I started talking further, trying to rebuild the trust and connection that we had lost. We went out on dates, talked on the phone for hours, and sluggishly but surely, we started to get back to where we were ahead. still, there was always this troubling feeling at the reverse of my mind that commodity was not right. Anabel was distant at times, and there were moments when she'd look at me with a sad and distant aspect
, One day, as we were walking in the demesne, she suddenly stopped and turned to me. " Lucas, there is commodity that I need to tell you," she said, her voice shaking with emotion. My heart sank as I braced myself for whatever she was about to say. " I have been having these strange dreams recently. Dreams about a world that is not like ours, a world where everything is different. And in these dreams, I see you, but you're not you, you are someone differently. And I feel this strong pull towards this other interpretation of you, like we are meant to be together. It's crazy, I know, but it's been hanging me for weeks now," she said, her eyes filled with gashes. I stood there, speechless, not knowing what to say or how to reply. Was she going crazy? Or was there commodity further to this? I could not help but wonder if this was the end of our relationship, or if it was just the morning of commodity indeed foreigner. I had to think about my situation and get a few things straight before I made any decisions. The first thing that I needed to do was talk with Daphne, and hopefully, she would be able to tell me what she knew about her mother's whereabouts. Then, maybe we could find some answers through a visit to Lander.
"Now," I said as I turned back towards the door. "Let us go find out where your sister is." I reached down and grabbed my sword by its scabbard, then stopped for a moment when I realized something important that I had forgotten about.
"Oh, right," I said as I looked at the ground in embarrassment. I hadn't even thought about it until now, but there was no way I would have been able to carry Daphne if I didn't have my sword on me. It took me a minute to remember that I had left it in my room when I first came here, so I figured it would probably be better if I went back and got it anyway.
Daphne looked up from her spot on the floor and smiled at me. "You don't need to worry about me." She pointed to herself. "My injuries are already healed."
I nodded slightly as I cast another peek down at her leg. "Well," I said, getting up, "I guess you may have the sword, but before we go anyplace else, please make sure you leave it somewhere secure. One can never be sure when someone might attempt to take it."
With great enthusiasm, she nodded and reached over to take my hand. "Thank you so much for saving my life."
I gave her hand a light squeeze before releasing it. It wasn't a major issue. Whether I assisted you or not, you were going to die."
"But still," she grinned and added. "Thank you very much for trying to save me."
with a shrug. "I tried," I laughed. "At least I tried." "Besides, I was more worried about getting my hands on the sword than anything else."
After giving me a scowl, she began searching the room for the sword. "What do you mean?" she inquired, surveying the space.
I slightly c****d my head. "One of the weapons utilised in the Demon Lord War is the sword that I took from the man outside the inn. Since every monster that attacked carried a sword similar to mine, it seems likely that the person who massacred the residents of the village also had one."
"So," she stated, glancing up at me. "You're saying that that person is the real reason why my parents disappeared?"
I gradually nodded. That appears plausible. Given that they possess the sword, it follows that they must also possess the ability to control the creatures. Should they choose to do so, they will undoubtedly be able to wipe out the entire universe. While we're in the city, we need to exercise caution. We should probably avoid anyone who appears to be skilled with one of those swords if we come across them."
With a nod. "Understood." She took a time to glance at the ground before turning back to face me. "Is there anything else you wanted to ask me?"
I gave a headshake. "Not at all. That covers it everything. Let's now attempt to locate your sister and ascertain her whereabouts."
Upon exiting the inn, I observed that the majority of the people on the streets appeared to steer clear of us. None of them looked up at me or Daphne; they all had downcast eyes. I got the impression that most people were terrified of me since I was a foreigner based on how they behaved on the day I met the merchant and his wife.
