Norbu's POV
I was greeted by the sun's rays, the bell kept on ringing, and the villagers are already doing their routines. The pagan priest together with some mathavaasinee are uttering their devotions.
I looked up and was hailed by the blue skies. The weather is perfect for hunting. Just when I was about to go back inside my little hut, Charlotte's bright smile radiated me.
I can see the people's adoration for her, I can feel how they respect and worship her, and I can also sense that they acknowledge her as their soon-to-be master.
Was it too obvious that I felt jealous of her? Am I bad for becoming envious of my sister when everyone sees us as each other's opponent?
Maybe she felt that someone was looking at her because she glanced in my direction. She smiled when she noticed my presence and walked towards me.
"Norbu, don't you think the weather is too perfect for some bear hunting?"
"I was about to go to the jungle when you called me" I answered with a serious emotion flashed on my face.
"Why don't we go together just like the old times?" said Charlotte still smiling
"I don't think that's the most promising idea when our clan sees us as eventual rivals" I answered
"Don't mind them, we're siblings"
Just when I was about to grab my arrows and bow, my mother arrived with a YOU-MUST-NOT-GO-WITH-HER expression plastered on her face.
Charlotte and I both bowed our heads down conceding she is higher than us.
"Mother I didn't see you coming"
"Oh, because you were busy accommodating the rival" she mocked and glared at Charlotte
"My bad, I mean your sister" she added.
Charlotte just smiled sheepishly and was gaping around, maybe looking for alibis so she could escape my mother's "not so welcoming greetings".
Maybe luck was always with her because Yangki arrived just when my mother was about to lash out some harsh words to her again.
"How can I forget! I literally need to teach the youngsters how to shoot arrows today. I should get going."
Charlotte looked at me and murmured,
"Maybe some other time"
She then snatched Yangki away and disappeared completely.
"How could you befriend your opponent Norbu! How tactless of you!" my mother started shouting at me accusing me of being reckless for staying close with Charlotte.
"Mother she is still my sister—"
"Who will take away everything that supposedly you should own!"
She lectured and reprimanded me again that Charlotte is nothing like a tamed beast ready to eat me alive, anytime when I'm not looking.
"I do not want to see you talking to that two-faced b***h again! Am I understood?"
"Yes mother" I answered reluctantly
Pissed, I picked up my wooden spear and set foot in the jungle. I lashed out my fury to every animal who caught my attention. I ended up catching nothing and was back in the village empty-handed and tired.
