CHAPTER 4: A NEW BEGINNING Morning arrived with a gentle drizzle, but the warmth of the sunlight never reached Aria's heart. She hadn't slept. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Ethan standing beside Sophia, introducing her as the woman he truly loved. With a sigh, she got out of bed and walked toward the window. The streets outside were already busy with people rushing to work, each carrying on with their lives. "Life doesn't stop because your heart is broken," she whispered to herself. A knock came at her bedroom door. "Come in." Her mother entered with a tray of breakfast. "I thought you might not feel like coming downstairs." Aria forced a smile. "Thank you, Mom." Her mother sat beside her and gently held her hand. "You know, when I married your father, we had almost nothing." Aria looked at her. "There were people who laughed at us. They said we'd never succeed." "But we proved them wrong." She squeezed Aria's hand. "This pain you're feeling won't last forever." "One day, you'll look back and realize it was the beginning of something beautiful." For the first time that morning, Aria smiled sincerely. "I hope you're right." "I know I am." After breakfast, Aria walked into her room and opened her wardrobe. Most of her dresses reminded her of Ethan. The blue gown she wore on their first anniversary. The white dress he once said made her look like an angel. The black evening gown she had planned to wear at their engagement dinner after the announcement. She stared at them quietly. Then she picked up a large suitcase. One by one, she packed every gift Ethan had ever given her. The dresses. The handbags. The jewelry. The perfume. Even the handwritten birthday cards he had once filled with sweet promises. By the time she finished, the suitcase was completely full. Her father happened to walk past the room. "What are you doing?" "I'm clearing my future." He nodded proudly. Together, they carried the suitcase to a local charity center. The elderly woman working there smiled warmly. "These are beautiful items." "I hope they make someone else happy," Aria replied. As she walked away, she felt lighter. She wasn't just giving away expensive gifts. She was letting go of a chapter of her life. ... Meanwhile, at Carter Group Headquarters... Ethan sat inside his luxurious office, staring absentmindedly at a stack of documents. His assistant, Daniel, knocked before entering. "Sir, your ten o'clock meeting starts in five minutes." Ethan nodded. "Reschedule it." Daniel blinked. "Sir?" "I said reschedule it." It was unlike Ethan. He never postponed meetings. As Daniel turned to leave, he hesitated. "There's... one more thing." "What is it?" "I heard Miss Aria donated all the gifts you've ever given her." Ethan looked up sharply. "What?" "This morning." "She took everything to a charity organization." Daniel expected his boss to laugh. Instead, Ethan remained silent. For reasons he couldn't explain, his chest tightened. "So..." "She really meant it." Back at her parents' house, Aria sat at her desk with a notebook in front of her. Across the top of the page, she wrote three simple goals. 1. Build my own career. 2. Never depend on anyone for my happiness. 3. Become the woman I can be proud of. She stared at the list. It wasn't much. But it was a beginning. Just then, her phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. She almost ignored it before finally answering. "Hello?" "Good afternoon. Am I speaking with Miss Aria Williams?" "Yes." "My name is Olivia Brooks from Brooks International." "We received your résumé six months ago." "We're opening a new executive position." "Would you be interested in attending an interview tomorrow morning?" Aria froze. Six months ago, Ethan had convinced her not to take the job because he wanted her to focus on planning their future together. She had rejected the opportunity without a second thought. Now... Life had given her another chance. A slow smile spread across her face. "Yes." "I'll be there." After the call ended, she looked out the window. Maybe losing Ethan hadn't closed every door. Maybe... It had opened a better one. End of Chapter 4. CHAPTER 5: THE INTERVIEW Aria stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the sleeves of her navy-blue blazer. It had been months since she had dressed for an interview. For so long, her life had revolved around Ethan and the future they had planned together. Now, she was planning a future that belonged only to her. "You look beautiful." Her mother smiled from the doorway. "More importantly," she added, "you look confident." Aria smiled softly. "I don't know if I'm confident yet." "You don't have to feel confident," her mother replied. "Sometimes all you need is the courage to take the first step." Her father walked in, holding a set of car keys. "I'll drive you." "Dad, I can go myself." "I know," he said with a grin. "But let your old man spoil you today." Aria laughed for the first time in days. "Alright." An hour later, they arrived at Brooks International, one of the most respected companies in the city. The sleek glass building towered above everything around it, reflecting the bright morning sun. Her father looked at her before she stepped out. "No matter what happens in there, remember this—you are enough." His words settled her nerves. "Thank you, Dad." She took a deep breath and walked through the revolving doors. Inside, the reception area buzzed with activity. Men and women in business suits hurried from one meeting to another. "Good morning," the receptionist greeted her warmly. "May I help you?" "I'm Aria Williams. I have an interview with Ms. Olivia Brooks." "Of course, Miss Williams. Please have a seat. She'll be with you shortly." As Aria sat down, she noticed several other candidates waiting. Some were reviewing documents. Others were practicing answers under their breath. She suddenly felt nervous again. "Miss Williams?" A woman in her early thirties approached with a warm smile. "I'm Olivia Brooks." "It's nice to finally meet you." "You too," Aria replied, shaking her hand. Olivia led her into a spacious office overlooking the city skyline. "I've read your résumé several times," Olivia began. "You graduated at the top of your class in Business Administration." "You also completed leadership training and several management courses." Aria nodded. "Yes." Olivia leaned back in her chair. "Then tell me something." "Why haven't you worked in the corporate world during the last three years?" For a moment, Aria hesitated. She could lie. She could invent an excuse. Instead, she chose honesty. "I gave up my career because I believed I was building a life with someone." Olivia remained silent. "But that relationship ended a few days ago." "I've learned that sacrificing your dreams for someone else isn't always love." "Sometimes it's simply losing yourself." A smile slowly spread across Olivia's face. "That's the most honest answer I've heard all week." The interview continued for nearly an hour. They discussed leadership. Problem-solving. Business strategy. Team management. With every question, Aria felt more comfortable. When it was over, Olivia stood and extended her hand. "Thank you for coming." "We'll contact you soon." Aria smiled politely. "Thank you for your time." As she stepped out of the office, she felt proud. Whether she got the job or not, she had proven something important. She was capable. She hadn't lost her value simply because one man failed to see it. ... Across town, Ethan sat in his office, unable to focus. Daniel entered carrying a file. "Sir, here's the report you requested." Ethan barely looked at it. Instead, he asked, "Have you heard anything about Aria?" Daniel looked surprised. "Actually... yes." Ethan raised an eyebrow. "She's interviewing at Brooks International this morning." Ethan frowned. "Brooks International?" "I thought she wasn't interested in working." Daniel hesitated. "From what I heard... she turned down that opportunity years ago because of you." Silence filled the room. For the first time, Ethan realized just how much Aria had sacrificed for him. And he had never even noticed. Back at Brooks International, Aria's phone buzzed just as she stepped outside. She glanced at the screen. Unknown Number. She answered. "Hello?" "Miss Aria Williams?" "Yes." "This is Olivia Brooks." "I know I said we'd contact you later..." "...but I'd rather not wait." Aria's heart began to race. "We'd like to offer you the position." For a few seconds, she couldn't speak. Then tears filled her eyes. Not tears of heartbreak. Tears of hope. A new chapter of her life had just begun. End of Chapter 5.
