Love is the beating heart that pauses when you see your life line for the first time. It’s the essence of pure love. Will prophecy prevent a love dynasty from continuing?
ANYA
The woods continue to darken as I walked among the trees. Snow, pure snow falls silently around, encasing the earth in silence. How can something be so beautiful yet so deafening at the same time, so dangerous yet so pure and innocent looking. It's like my thoughts never stop screaming and running through my head in a never ending cycle. Silence surrounds me, why do my grandparents live so damn far away. If I hadn't followed that stupid wolf then I wouldn't have lost the road. Yet here I am lost in the forest due to a distraction. As I chomp through the woods darkness finally ascends. “Great now it's dark too, as if this day couldn’t get any worse.” I grumble with frustration.
SNAP! I freezed, afraid to move. My heart thunders, beating wildly against my chest. I slowly turn my head and my heart stops everything hitches. Standing not to far away is the magnificent white wolf with humanly beautiful green eyes that swirl with red and brown. I felt breathless and entranced as I stared at the wolf who stared back in wonder. “Anyastastia!” my grandpa’s voice yells not far off. The wolf growls and turns away to recede into the treeline. “Over here papa!” I yell to get his attention. Not long after he appears though the treeline. “Anya, you wild soul you, always diverting from the path you know you should stay on. These woods are dangerous young one.” I roll my eyes and smile deviously. Papa shoots me malicious glare, knowing full well my “wild soul” is never going to stay on the path that I should. We make small talk as we head to the cabin. A beautiful log cabin, made from the finest red oak trees Odessa, Texas has to offer. Of course they were imported all the way to Moon Valley, Tennessee. I miss this cabin dearly. New Orleans doesn’t have the same mystic beauty this place has. My Mother hasn’t allowed me to visit since I was 10. The argument to allow me to come this year was big enough to make an earthquake look sweet and kind. “Mamaw, we are here,” I yell as we come through the door. A 5 foot women pops around the corner with attitude and scolds me in her thick cajun accent “Anya, why you always trying to off yourself in the woods, as if the wolves don’t eat well enough here already.” such a spocky little woman she is, I chuckled lightly and chide her, “Oh, Mamaw you always over exaggerate everything.” Papa who had grabbed himself a cup of sweet tea, nearly choked on it when he laughed while taking a drink. “Keep it up Richard, I'll give something to choke on,” she snapped “you’re the reason she’s a wild child.” Papa winks at me and we both laugh.
Since I was little, me and papaw have been giving mamaw heart attacks and have both been scolded on several occasions. We’re trouble together for sure, maybe that’s why my mom was so against me coming here. But I was so happy to be here, I missed my grandparents dearly. I followed them to the kitchen to grab something to eat before I headed off for a much needed sleep.
THORN
I was wandering the woods at dusk, The snow was cool against my paws. I felt as if I was being followed so I quickened my pace. After a while the feeling of being followed lessened. I relaxed and padded along enjoying the feeling of the snow under my feet. Before I knew it I was running along the woods. It was exhilarating feeling the wind whip past me. I started to slow after a while coming to a slow pad. The smell of honeysuckle and honeydew hit my senses, my wolf stirred and seemed to get excited. Hmm how odd I thought, I followed the scent being careful to be quiet while creeping along the now darkening woods. As she came into view I stepped on a twig, it’s snap seemed to resonate through the forest and she turned around meeting my eyes Oh my Goddess she’s beautiful, how come I never meet someone not in wolf form? Her red hair seem to wildly frame her face. She had blue eyes that seem to almost glow in the near dark forest. Her skin was a pale olive, that almost looked like beautifully whipped cream. She was alluringly beautiful.
And how come she wasn’t scared? “What, where, when, Thorn SHUT UP!” Marcos exclaimed telepathically. “Oh, f**k off Marcos, you have your forever mate already, let me dream.” I spat back in pure annoyance.
“She’s a Jaspere Thorn, you can’t be with her.” he stated dryly.
“Why not?” I pouted back, not taking my eyes off hers.
Marcos huffs, “You know why Thorn, don’t act stupid. The prophecy.”
I let out a whine, “that’s a bullshit prophecy.”
"I know man but, it's for the best." he replied with pity. I didn't need to be pitied. I needed my mother not to have that damn prophecy.
The pack Luna, my mother, has powers that sometimes gives her insights to the future. And that future just happens to entail a Jaspaere as my mate. A Jaspaere is a hybrid of a lycan and vampire and are said to bring mass destruction to anyone who gets close to them. And the prophecy entails a Luna Japaere who will destroy our pack and end the existence of all lycans.
Why should my forever be denied based on some insights from an unknown source. It’s not fair to me or the pack. I heard a man calling after her, and made my exit quickly into the woods. I felt her eyes burn a hole into my back as I left. I entered the pack house in a pair of shorts and no shirt. “Thorn,” My father called from his office “May we have a moment.” “Of course father” I called back as I headed to his office. It’s as if he never leaves his office, but as an alpha it’s part of his job which never stops. I entered his office and took a seat on the leather couch. His office was regal but business like a good mix of classy and grand. My father was handsome for his 50s, and had a very business-like stature. He sighed as he took his reading glasses off. “Son, you're turning 20 soon, and will soon be taking over the title of alpha, have you had an inkling of a chance of finding your mate?” he questioned.
I grunted in distaste, “Father, I don’t think I should have my fated mate, the prophecy.” I replied in frustration. He scoffed “Thorn, prophecies aren’t always true, and can be changed. Once you find her you won’t be able to stay away from her, you can’t just not love her.” He didn’t believe in such prophecies, but the pack and my own mother have made it clear it would be my luna who would destroy us. “I know father, but I’ll have to try, for the sake of the pack, I can’t put my selfish needs over the pack. Even if that means not having my mate.” I said grimly. It wasn’t fair, but the needs of the pack over weighed my happily ever after. “That’s all son, I hope you find her and when you do, don’t reject her, you will regret it.” He concluded. I needed air once again, no one could know that I’ve already found her, not even her. I must keep my distance to protect her and my pack. It's already dangerous enough that she's a hybird. I'm sure it has been kept as secret as possible. If the lycans and vampires found out about her they would inact a hunt. I don't want that, and will protect her, but I can't have her. Oh Goddess, how could you be so cruel.
