Man of Steel

Everyone understood what they had to do.

They split immediately , everyone running to their respective duties while Dean ran towards the stairs .

He took them in twos , running for the next floors as fast as he could .

He was so engrossed in running up the stairs that he almost missed his floor and had to run down an extra flight of stairs to get there .

He ran around looking for the shop that had been termed hardware and eventually got it .

The first thing his eyes landed on were black trash bags , he grabbed one and tore the seal off as he opened it while running around the store .

He finally found a shelf that had things he wanted , he grabbed flashlight batteries and several minute bottles of menthylated spirit , he saw a small row of communication devices and grabbed three pairs of radio transmitters .

He grabbed rope and a baton that had spikes on it before moving to the more intense part of the store .

Different guns were lined up before him and Dean wished he had been more of a gun expert because he had no idea what more than half of them were .

So , he ran around picking extra ammo for the guns he recognized as the ones his teammates and Trevor used .

He found a rifle too that looked really sexy, a gift that May would love and got that off the shelf along with a little maelstrom of ammo for all of them .

He ran around for a short while till he found bows and arrows and grabbed one of the medium sized satch that was filled with arrows , he slung that behind him and then finally spotted something for Blade .

Grenades of different sizes and shapes dotted the shelf and Dean had no idea which to take , so he just cleared a side of the shelf into the bag and tied the bag before swinging it behind his shoulders like Jade had done earlier today , the irony .

Dean adjusted his stance till he did not feel the weight of the bag so much and he was sure that it would not slow his movements before he headed down the stairs .

The stairs were easier to take now that he was going down .

When he reached the last flight of stairs , he found a store that sold female dresses , a mannequin outside and it was wearing a red dress that reminded Dean of May's cloth situation .

He pulled the dress off in one move and bounded down the rest of the stairs .

Nelly was already waiting where they had first parted , she had a large shopping cart next to her .

The shopping cart could have easily passed as a small car, it even had steering wheels and tires and it was half filled .

Dean pointed at it , frowning softly .

" Won't that draw attention to us ? "

Nelly looked at him like he had some contagious disease .

" Do you really think we could leave here in any way that would not draw attention to us ? "

Dean understood what she was saying so he opened his bag and took out two grenades that he forced into his Kevlar vest before dumping the rest of the bag into the cart .

Tara came flying out of the store , her hands filled with two shopping bags followed by Jade who was running down the last couple of stairs with bags covering every part of his body .

They both rushed forward and dumped their bags into the cart before exhaling loudly .

Now came the hard part , Dean still had no idea what they were supposed to do.

He turned back to the cart , it was large enough to fit all of them , he looked up at them.

" Get in the cart !!! "

They all raised their weapons as Dean and Nelly took the front while Jade and Tara pushed the cart from behind .

They reached the doors and Nelly pushed it open , she peeked outside before Dean came out too .

The Steels were still by the barricade , beating it down and they had made progress because it looked very different from when they had first come through it .

Judging by the amount of destroyed cars and weird looking steels , Blade must have thrown a couple more grenades that they had not heard .

Dean beckoned for Jade and Tara to push the rest of the cart out .

They pushed the cart out and came out , leaving the door to swing shut .

As the doors slowly swung , Dean got an immense feeling of impending danger .

" Get on the cart! ".

He had whispered it because he did not even know why he wanted them to get on the cart .

The reason came as soon as the doors shut.

An alarm blared round , informing every thing around that they had just exited the mall .

Dean watched in shock as the Steels all turned around , their arms began to twist as they stared at their new play things .

" Get on the f*****g cart !! "

This time , they did as he said .

Dean pulled out one of the grenades that he had brought out earlier had flung it as well as he could .

" You missed ! ".

Dean had no time to look to see if he really missed or see which of the women had tweeted about it , he got on the back handles of the cart , the iron of it pressing painfully into his butt .

" Drive !!! ".

" There is no where to drive through ".

" Just drive !! ".

He raised his rifle up as soon as the steels decided that they all wanted to collectively use rifles too .

He aimed for their eyes , shooting as the cart went forward .

The grenade finally did its work , exploding and creating a hole where the convertible had been , a hole wide enough for them to drive through while Dean continued to shoot at the Steels eyes .

The heat from the car that had just exploded seared them as they drove through the hole while Dean removed the pin from the other grenade and dropped it into the hole .

They finally arrived on the other side of the barricade , some of the Steels had tried to crawl through the hole that they had made and Dean got busy shooting at them while waiting for the grenade to do its work .

It exploded a moment later , blowing away the heads of the two Steels that had been crawling out .

The two explosions plus all of the previous explosions from Blade was too much weight for the barricade .

It crumpled down from its former organized stack of cars to a mess of different cars , shutting the Steels within for as long as possible .

Dean exhaled and jumped down from the iron that had been pressing into his butt before turning to check if anyone of the others had been hurt .

They were all staring at him strangely and there were two new faces who looked partially scared .

Dean smiled slowly .

" I guess I did not miss after all ".

Nelly took a step forward , her hands on the cart , she was studying Dean carefully .

" How long have you been formulating this plan ? Why did you not tell us about it so we could at least have been aware and have prepared accordingly ? "

Dean tilted his head to observe her.

She seemed strangely angry , had she not wanted Dean to save her life ?

She could have dropped down and created a distraction while they got away then.

" Well , you brought the cart and I had nothing to do with the sudden alarm so you can tell me how long you think I have been formulating the plan for ".

Blade laughed loudly .

" Come on , you have to admit that was incredibly cool . I heard the explosion and I thought it was the steels just when I had run out of grenades but then y'all came riding out amidst the fire and all ".

Trevor nodded too .

" And then , you all got out of the car but Dean just keeps on shooting and does not blink an eye when the cars crumble on the steels ".

Dean kind of wished he had seen it .

The barricade shook behind them and they all stumbled forward .

" We should probably get out of here ".

" Good idea ".

Nelly got back into the cart and began to drive slowly while Tara joined her in it and the rest of them walked after them .

The two new faces did not even worry Dean , he was on too much of a high after what had just happened .

Jade walked up to him and joined him , walking silently by his side .

" It was really cool , how calm you were . I was already freaking out ".

Dean nodded, wondering what it was that Jade really wanted to say .

" I am sorry about earlier . I was the one that let them come along and when our lives were endangered , I just froze and was completely useless ".

" I kept thinking about what you said about being responsible for people's lives and I realized if you had not been there , we would have all died and their deaths would have been on me ".

Dean stopped walking and turned slightly .

" Don't overthink it , it was not that big of a deal ".

He continued his walking but stopped again when Jade pulled him from behind .

" Is that all you want to say to me ? "

Dean wondered if there was anything more to say , there was nothing more .

" Yes , that's all I want to say to you ".

He continued walking again , grateful for the peace and quiet at last .
