Once inside the elevator, Maverick looked at his right hand with a helpless expression. Although the feel of the beautiful woman's chest was quite pleasant, Maverick knew he had gotten himself into a big trouble.
But right now, he had no time to worry about that. He just wanted to figure out what was going on with the money!
Moments later, the elevator reached the twenty-seventh floor.
Maverick stepped out of the elevator and found that the entire floor had only one single office. The office was luxuriously decorated, and the location offered a stunning view of the whole Westmore Academy.
A middle-aged man in a black suit quickly stood up and walked over to Maverick as soon as he saw him. With a respectful tone, he said, "Young Master Koda, you're here!"
"Are you the one who called me earlier?" Maverick asked, frowning.
"Yes, Young Master Koda. Let me introduce myself. I'm Ambros Griffin, the general manager of Koviko Group," Ambros said with a smile.
"Oh, I see," Maverick nodded slightly. As he looked around the office, he asked, "So, what's this inheritance you mentioned on the phone?"
"Young Master Koda, do you remember saving an old man with the last name Sterling about ten years ago?" Ambros asked softly.
"An old man named Sterling?" Maverick instinctively paused, then suddenly recalled that he had indeed saved an old man when he was younger — pulled him out of the path of a swerving truck near the old bus terminal. However, it had been so long ago that he couldn't remember the old man's last name.
"Young Master Koda, here's the situation. Mr. Cassius Sterling was the chairman of Koviko Group. He passed away three days ago and left a will. Since he had no children nor family, all his assets are to be inherited by you," Ambros explained slowly.
"I'm inheriting all of this by myself?"
Maverick was stunned when he heard Mr. Ambros say this. It felt like something that only happened in TV dramas.
"That's right. Let me give you a brief overview of Chairman Sterling's estate. The publicly traded companies include Koviko Group in Westmore Academy, Carol Group, and Simcon Pharmaceuticals Group..."
As he spoke, he picked up a document from his desk and began explaining what Maverick would be inheriting.
At first, Maverick listened intently to Mr. Ambros's introduction, but soon, it all started to feel like a dream. He couldn't help but interrupt, frowning, "Wait a minute. Are you sure all of this is mine alone?"
"Absolutely!" Mr. Ambros nodded lightly, looking at Maverick.
"And how much is all of this worth?" Maverick continued to ask.
"Well..." Mr. Ambros paused for a moment, then said softly, "Young Master Koda, my rough estimate would be over seven trillion dollars."
"S-Seven trillion... in dollars?"
Maverick was instantly frozen in place, his face showing utter disbelief.
"Yes!" Mr. Ambros nodded again, looking at Maverick.
"All of this... all of this money is mine?" Maverick shouted, feeling that everything happening to him was beyond comprehension. Seven trillion dollars was about to become his, something he couldn't even dream of — just hours ago he'd been fighting over a fifty-dollar bill and a ruined noodle delivery.
"That's correct!"
Mr. Ambros replied with a cheerful smile.
"That can't be right!" Maverick shook his head vigorously and continued, "You're definitely lying to me. Sure, I did save an old man once, but if he was really that rich, why have I never heard of him? Seven trillion dollars? That would make him the richest person in the world!"
"Young Master Koda, you must be referring to the Forbes list?" Mr. Ambros responded with a faint smile.
"Yes, exactly that list. If he was really that wealthy, why isn't his name on it?" Maverick questioned.
"Young Master Koda, do you think someone of Chairman Sterling's stature would choose to be on such a list?"
"What do you mean?" Maverick asked, puzzled.
"Let me explain it this way. The people you see on those lists are there mainly for fame. With fame, they can access better social resources. But Chairman Sterling has long passed that stage; he doesn't want to overly expose his identity."
Mr. Ambros paused, then looked at Maverick and said, "Chairman Sterling once said that the troubles of the rich are far greater than those of the poor. So, Young Master Koda, if you inherit this fortune, I would advise you not to reveal your identity. It would only bring you trouble."
Maverick looked at Mr. Ambros in front of him. He felt that Mr. Ambros wasn't lying. Even a swindler wouldn't bother with someone as broke as he was. Besides, the money in his bank account was real, and Mr. Ambros's office was extremely luxurious. How could a swindler afford such an office?
"What are the requirements for me to inherit this fortune?" Maverick asked, trying to suppress his excitement.
Mr. Ambros found a document on his desk and handed it to Maverick. "Young Master Koda, this is Chairman Sterling's will. As long as you sign it, everything will be yours. But there's one thing you need to be aware of."
"What is it?" Maverick asked, taking the will from Mr. Ambros, his expression full of curiosity.
"Chairman Sterling specifically mentioned in his will that if you want to inherit his estate, you must marry Miss Davina Harris. Otherwise, you won't be able to inherit anything," Mr. Ambros said slowly.
"Who is Davina Harris?" Maverick was taken aback. He hadn't expected such a peculiar condition for inheriting the estate. Money and a wife?
"According to the will, I am not allowed to disclose any information about Miss Harris," Mr. Ambros replied calmly.
"Is this Davina Harris some kind of ugly duckling?" Maverick asked, frowning.
"Young Master Koda, you really don't need to worry about Miss Harris's appearance. With today's advanced cosmetic technology, even if she were a pig, as long as you have the money, she could be turned into a beauty," Mr. Ambros said with a chuckle.
"You have a point there..." Maverick nodded slightly and then continued, "Alright, I agree to the terms of the will."
"If you have no further questions, you can sign here, and the will can take effect immediately," Mr. Ambros said, handing the will to Maverick.
Faced with such a substantial inheritance, Maverick couldn't refuse it. Marrying a woman was a small price to pay. Heck, he might even agree to marry a pig if it meant getting the money, especially since he was in desperate need of it.
