Shadows Of Debt

The air in the VIP ward thickened the instant Min-seok Srisuk stepped inside. His towering frame seemed to shrink the luxurious room, broad shoulders filling the doorway as dark sandalwood and steel pheromones rolled forward like an inevitable tide. Beside him, the second man, a stern-faced alpha enforcer with a discreet earpiece, remained a silent shadow, eyes scanning the space with professional detachment. Eli’s heart slammed against his ribs. His mother’s frail hand tightened in his, but her expression shifted from weary hope to quiet awe. Min-seok’s presence commanded the room without a word, his long dark hair partially veiling those piercing eyes, a sharp jaw set in its usual cold line. Even in a tailored black shirt and trousers that hinted at the gym-sculpted power beneath six-pack abs, corded forearms veined with restrained strength, he looked every inch the untouchable heir of Aetherion “Mrs. Thanasak,” Min-seok said, voice low and velvety, carrying that natural Alpha timbre that made Eli’s stomach flutter traitorously. He inclined his head with calculated respect. “I’m Min-seok Srisuk. I apologize for the intrusion.” Eli stood quickly, positioning himself between the Alpha and his mother’s bed, though he knew it was futile. His own sweet vanilla-floral scent spiked with anxiety, mixing dangerously with Min-seok’s in the confined space. The blockers he’d applied earlier felt useless. His mother smiled faintly, eyes glistening. “You… you’re the one who saved us. Please, come closer. I can’t thank you enough, young man. My son told me you were an old friend from his college days. You went to the UK to study, and how you both lost contact, fate has a way, doesn’t it?” Min-seok’s gaze flicked to Eli for a split second, dark, knowing, and laced with something possessive that sent heat crawling up Eli’s neck. The Alpha approached the bed with measured steps, his enforcer staying by the door. “It was the least I could do. Elias has always been memorable.” The words were polite, but the undertone vibrated with command. Mine. Eli’s cheeks burned. He hadn’t expected Min-seok to play along with the half-truth so smoothly. The Alpha heir’s scent wrapped around him like chains, soothing his panicked Omega instincts even as it stirred unwanted warmth low in his belly. Not now. Not here. Mrs. Thanasak reached out a trembling hand. Min-seok took it gently surprisingly, so for a man rumoured to crush empires with a glance. “My boy has struggled so much because of me. This heart it’s taken everything from us. But you cleared it all. The VIP care, the specialists. How can I ever repay such kindness?” “You don’t need to,” Min-seok replied, his tone even but his eyes never leaving Eli’s face for long. “Elias and I have an understanding. His well-being is my priority now. As is yours.” The words hung heavy. Eli shifted uncomfortably, his body hyper-aware of the Alpha’s proximity, the heat radiating from that powerful 192 cm frame, the subtle flex of muscle under fabric. Last night’s promise echoed: Anything. Don’t blame me later. His mother’s relief was palpable, her scent softening into something almost peaceful. “You’re a good Alpha, Min-seok. Strong. I can sense it. Please, look after my son when I’m gone. He pretends to be strong, but he’s still my little boy. Fragile in ways the world doesn’t see.” “Mom” Eli started, voice cracking. Min-seok’s lips curved in the faintest smirk, hidden from her view but searing into Eli. “You have my word. No harm will come to him. Not while I breathe.” The conversation flowed carefully after that. Min-seok spoke little of himself, deflecting questions about Aetherion with humble grace that didn’t match the legends. He mentioned pulling strings with hospital administrators, presidents, and board members who owed the Srisuk family favours. Eli watched, mesmerized and terrified, as his mother relaxed under the Alpha’s calm dominance. For the first time in months, genuine colour touched her cheeks. But Eli felt the noose tightening. When his mother drifted toward sleep after another dose of medication, Min-seok nodded to his enforcer. The man stepped out, closing the door softly behind him. Alone with the sleeping woman and the predator who now owned his debt, Eli turned sharply. “What are you doing here? How did you even know” Min-seok closed the distance in two strides, backing Eli against the wall beside the window. One large hand braced beside Eli’s head, caging him without touching. Up close, the Alpha was an overwhelming pointed nose brushing near Eli’s temple as he inhaled deeply, a low rumble vibrating in his chest. “Your scent called to me,” Min-seok murmured, dark eyes half-lidded. “And I keep what’s mine informed. The politicians from last night? Their associates have been sniffing around. I handled it. Quietly. But you, you reek of fear and that sweet heat teasing at the edges. Did you think you could hide here forever?” Eli’s breath hitched, his Omega biology responding despite his mind’s protests. Slick threatened, his scent blooming vanilla-floral and needy. “This was supposed to be about my mom. Not… whatever you think this is. I lied to her. Told her we were old friends. Don’t make this worse.” Min-seok’s free hand tilted Eli’s chin up, thumb brushing his lower lip with deceptive gentleness. Electricity shot through Eli’s veins. “You offered anything, little Omega. I paid the price. Your mother’s life extended for now. In return, you move into the estate permanently. Modelling contracts will come through my agencies. No more desperate nights. No more running. And when your heat comes and it will, triggered by me you’ll be under my care.” Eli’s eyes widened, a mix of fury and reluctant desire warring inside. “You’re insane. This is forced. I hate what you’re doing.” A dangerous chuckle escaped Min-seok, his body pressing closer, gym-honed chest brushing Eli’s slighter frame. “Hate me all you want. It won’t change the fact that your body recognizes its alpha. Love and hate are two sides of the same blade, Elias. I’ve never wanted an Omega. Until your terrified scent slammed into me in that alley. Now? I’ll burn Asia to keep you.” The confession hung between them, raw and obsessive. Eli shoved at the Alpha’s chest solid as marble. Min-seok didn’t budge, but he stepped back slightly, giving the illusion of space. “I’ll meet your mother’s wishes. Play the ‘kind friend.’ But tonight, you return with me. Refuse, and the bills can be… reconsidered. Or worse, those politicians still want their pound of flesh. I can protect you. Only me.” Eli glanced at his sleeping mother, heart fracturing. Her words echoed, I don’t want you alone. The irony tasted like poison. This powerful, feared Alpha offered safety wrapped in chains. A soft knock interrupted. The enforcer returned, murmuring something low to Min-seok about “loose ends at the Lotus Crown” and “messages sent to the politicians’ circles." Min-seok’s expression darkened further, a flash of lethal promise crossing his handsome features. “Stay with her a while longer,” he told Eli, voice softening just enough for the sickroom. “I’ll arrange transport. And Elias?” He leaned in one last time, lips brushing Eli’s ear. “Your scent is changing. Sweetening. Fight it if you must, but you’re already mine.” Min-seok left with his enforcer, the room feeling emptier yet heavier. Eli sank into the chair by his mother’s bed, head in his hands. Tears threatened again. The hug from earlier, the lullaby, the laughter, it all felt like a goodbye wrapped in fragile hope. His mother stirred slightly, murmuring his name in her sleep. But outside, in the hospital corridors, unseen forces stirred. One of the politicians, Alphas from the penthouse, had survived Min-seok’s initial warning with bruised pride and a vow of revenge. Rumours were already spreading in elite circles: the Srisuk heir had claimed a pretty new Omega. And some rivals in the modelling world, jealous Alphas, and Omegas at Apex Elite were listening. Eli’s phone vibrated with an unknown number. A text: We know what you did last night, little w***e. Run all you want. Contracts have consequences. His blood chilled. Min-seok’s protection suddenly felt like both salvation and a deeper trap. As the sun climbed higher over Bangkok, casting golden light across the river visible from the VIP window, Eli realized the shadows were only deepening. His mother’s time was slipping away, his freedom was gone, and the most feared Alpha in Asia had fixated on him with an obsession that promised to consume them both. Would this forced arrangement break him or awaken something far more dangerous in his heart?
