Perfect Mistake

First Date

After 20 minutes of driving we pull up to the zoo.

“ I know you told me you like animals so I thought I would take you to the zoo and then afterwards we can get something to eat.”

“ Yeah sounds great.”

I unbuckle my seatbelt and wait for Leo to come to the passenger side to open my door. After he opens my door he helps me get out of his car and we head towards the entrance of the zoo holding hands.

“What’s your favorite animal?” I ask

“ I like Tigers. What about you?”

“ Elephants are definitely my favorite animal.” I reply

While we are walking around the zoo we are talking to each other and getting to know more about one another. The more I talk to Leo the more I realize how much I like him. He is smart and funny. I also learned that he is a Capricorn and I told him I’m a cancer.

We have walked for a good 30 minutes when I spot someone selling cotton candy. Leo buys us both a cotton candy and we go sit on a bench.

While we are sitting on the bench and eating cotton candy I decide to ask Leo more questions.

“ What’s your mom and sisters name?”

“ my mom’s name is Loren and my sisters names are Casey and Callie.” Leo says

“ when do you want to tell your mom about the pregnancy?”

“ I wanted to tell her before I leave for my away game but that would mean we would have to go today. So We can just tell her after I come back.”

“ when will you be back?”

“ well we don’t leave till Friday but I will be practicing all this week and I have an exam that I need to study for. We can tell her on Sunday since I get back on Saturday.

“ I don’t mind telling her today after we get done with our date.”

“ Are you sure Noa? I don’t mind waiting.”

“ I do the more we wait the more my anxiety rises from not telling your parents.”

“ okay we’ll go after we get something to eat.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

We sit on the bench and finish eating our cotton candy before we start walking again. As we walk around the zoo holding hands I feel myself getting a little anxious.

I know I told Leo that I’m ready to tell his mom but now I’m having second thoughts. I mean what if she doesn’t like me or what if she doesn’t want me to have these babies. All bad thoughts swarm through my head and I feel myself about to panic.

I don’t want to tell Leo about my anxiety and depression just yet so I start to focus on my breathing. While I’m trying to concentrate on my breathing. Leo’s talking pulls me out of my trance.

“ you ready to get something to eat?”

I just nod my head yes and we start walking back to the car.

When we get in the car I look at the clock to see that it’s almost two o’clock. Which means we were at the zoo for a little over an hour.

“ so where are we going to eat.”

“ it’s a surprise”

We have been driving for an hour but in that hour we sung songs played I spy with my little eyes and told each other family stories.

When we finally arrive Leo opens my door and leads me into the restaurant.

When we walk into the restaurant my mouth drops. It is so pretty and I’ve not seen anything like this. Right as you walk into the restaurant it’s like you have walked into a rainforest. There are sound effects going on and lights are flashing.

Leo goes to where the hostess is and gives his name. When we get to our table I see a bouquet of white roses with pink carnation flowers. And a gift box sitting on the table.

Leo pulls my seat out for me and hands me the flower bouquet and the gift box.

“ I know you haven’t forgotten what I did to you and I will do everything to try and make up for it. Starting off with this date.”

“ thank you for the flowers.”

Leo then tells me to open the gift box and when I do I feel my eyes start to water. Inside the gift box are two things. The first thing is a two heart necklace with a diamond in the center. It also has a message in the jewelry box. It says I may be just a bump but we love you more than you will ever know. Leave this close to your heart until we can meet you and rest in your arms.

The second gift is a chalk board that says babies with a line left blank beside it for their name. Underneath the name is where I put the size of the baby, how far along I am, my cravings and how many days it is until the babies arrive.

When I’m done looking at the gifts I tell Leo thank you and I lean over the table and give him a kiss. Soon afterwards the waiter comes to our table and takes our order.

I order a hamburger while Leo orders a steak. while we are eating I tell him about how I told my parents I was pregnant and that we should do the same with his mom. He loved the idea and thought we should get his sisters a gift as well.

After we got done eating we went to the mall to get all the things we need to tell his mom and sisters that I was pregnant.

After we left the mall I started wondering if we tell his mom will she tell his dad.

“ Are you sure your mom and sisters won’t tell your dad I’m pregnant.”

“ Yeah my mom loves my dad but she knows the situation between me and my dad is complicated right now. And my sisters don’t like Stacey and they know the situation as well.”

The whole way to Leo’s parents house I do my breathing exercises to keep me calm and I focus on the music playing.

When we pull up to his parents house he gives me his sweatshirt to put on. So I take off my jean jacket throw his sweatshirt on.

He comes to my side of the car and grabs the gifts in one hand and takes my hand in the other.

We walk up the driveway and Leo presses the doorbell.
