Perfect Mistake

“ Are you okay in there?”Alex ask while knocking on my bathroom door. For the last few weeks I have been throwing up in the mornings.

After I get done I flush the toilet and brush my teeth. When I walk out the bathroom I see all my roommates standing outside the door.

“Maybe you and Kate should make a doctors appointment.” I wasn’t the only one who was getting sick. Kate was throwing up just like me so maybe we just got a stomach bug.

“ I think it’s just a stomach bug since Kate is also sick”

“ okay. Well me and Alex are going to the store to get pads and tampons “ Lily said

“ wait are you guys on your period” Kate asked

“Yeah”

I look at Kate in a panic because I’m not on my period and I don’t think she is either. We have been living together since freshman year. All our menstrual cycles are right around each other which means I’m late. It has been ten weeks since Leo took my virginity and I’m starting to panic.

“Kate are you on your period?” I ask and she shakes her head no”

“Me either.”Alex and Lily eyes go wide after I say that I’m not on my period.

“ Alex and I are going to go buy you and Kate a pregnancy test. We will be right back” They rushed out of the apartment and into Lily’s car.

“This can’t be happening to me. I’m suppose to become a vet not pregnant and if I am pregnant all my plans will be pushed back”

“ Breath Noa, just breath” Kate said as I was going into full panic mode. I started to concentrate on my breathing like Kate said and my breathing was turning back into normal.

“We don’t even know if we are pregnant and if we are we have each other to get through this.” Kate was right maybe we aren’t pregnant.

Ten minutes later Alex and Lily walk through the door. They took out six pregnancy test and sat them on the table.

“Why did you get six pregnancy test?”

“Three for you and three for Kate?” Alex says.

Me and Kate go into separate bathrooms to take the test. When I get done I walked back to the living room the same time as Kate. I put my test on one side of the table and she had hers on the other side. Alex and Lily set a timer on their phones so will know when we can look at the test.

After three minutes have passed we all hear the timer go off. I flip all three of the pregnancy test over and take a deep breath before I look at the results. When I look down I see my first pregnancy test had two lines, my second test had two lines and the digital pregnancy test said pregnant. I looked over to see Kate had the same expression as me.

Tears silent run down my face as I look at Kate. Then I felt myself panicking again. I have panic attacks normally so I take medicine. As I was panicking I felt arms go around me.

“ Breath in and out Noa.” I hear someone whispering to me. I was calming down listening to the voice that kept telling me to breath. When I was done I looked up to see all of my roommates hugging me.

“All my plans are ruined. And now I’m going to have to raise a baby by myself.” I cry

“ Maybe Leo will surprise you and want to be in the baby’s life. But if he decides not to you have all three of us. Plus I’m pregnant too so we’re in the same boat.”

“ You guys should make an appointment to see a doctor. Lily and I will go with y’all.”

After talking on the phone with the receptionist the only time that they had open today was at 2:30pm. I asked her could I book it for two people and she said that would be fine.

After I got off the phone I told my roommates and we rushed out of the house. The appointment was at 2:30pm which gave us thirty minutes to get there.

When we arrived we all got out of Alex’s car and went into the doctors office. Kate and I went to the front to give our names while Lily and Alex went to sit down.

As we were waiting for our names to get called I just kept telling myself to breath. While we are waiting in the waiting room we started talking about cute baby names which caused me to relax more.

“ Noa Pérez and Kate Lexington” we all walk to where the nurse is standing and follow her to the back. Before we go into the room she takes me and Kate to step on a weight scale then she measures our height.

After she is done she leads us to a room. When we walk in the room she tells us she needs to take our temperature and check our blood pressure. When she was done giving us a check up she told us the doctor will be in shortly.

“ I already know what y’all answers are going to be but I just want to make sure. You two are going to keep the baby right?” Lily ask

“Yep” Kate says while I just nod my head yes

We went back to talking about baby names when we hear a knock on the door.

“ Hi ladies my name is doctor Hill and I will be your Ob/Gyn. Which two are Noa and Kate?” She ask

“I’m Kate”

“I’m Noa”

“ okay ladies first things first. Here is a cup for you to urinate in. Even though you took a home pregnancy test sometimes they are wrong. This will either confirm if your expecting or not.”

She hands both me and Kate a cup to pee in and we head to the bathroom. After I got done peeing I wrapped a paper towel around the cup and went back into the room.

When back in the room me and Kate handed Dr.Hill our cups to check if we’re pregnant.

“ I’ll go take these to the lab and be back with your results.”

“ when are y’all going to tell the boys your pregnant?” Lily ask

“ I was going to ask Kate after our doctors appointment but I guess I’ll ask her now. When we get home do you want to pack and go see our parents and tell them together that we are pregnant or do you want to tell thing one and thing two first?”

“ We can go see our parents and get it over with”

After ten minutes we hear a knock on the door and Dr.Hill walks in.

“Congratulations Ms. Pèrez and Ms. Lexington you are both pregnant”

Me and Kate didn’t really have a reaction since we already knew what she was going to say.

“ Okay I will start with Kate first. If you could lay down and lift up your shirt.”

Kate gets out of her chair and goes to lay down on the exam table. Kate then lifts up her shirt to expose her stomach.

“This might feel cold” Dr.Hill says while putting a blue like gel onto her stomach. Dr.Hill then starts moving the wand around her stomach.

“ Here is your baby”All of us look up at the screen on the wall and see Kates baby. After looking at the screen I turn my head to see Kate with tears in her eyes as she looks at her baby.

“ You are ten weeks pregnant. Your due date is going to be around April 5th. Everything looks to be healthy. Would you like to hear the heartbeat.” Kate nods her head yes

Dr.Hill touches a button and the next thing I know I hear the baby’s heartbeat.

“ After I examine Noa I will explain more and tell you things to do and things to don’t I will also talk to you about your medical history. Here are you pictures of your baby.Okay if Kate and Noa can switch spots.”

I get up from my chair and do the same thing Kate did.

“Like I told Kate this may feel cold” she then puts the blue gel on to my stomach and starts moving the wand around my stomach.

“ Hmm that’s interesting.” Doctor Hill says

“ Is there something wrong” I ask starting to get nervous

“ No everything looks healthy. It’s just you my dear are having twins. Look right hear you can see two heads.”

I didn’t even say anything when she told me I was having twins. All I could do is look at the screen with amazement.

“ you are ten weeks pregnant as well. So your due day is around April 5 but since you are having twins they might come early. Would you like to hear the heartbeat as well.”

I finally found my voice and said “yes”

She taped the button and two heartbeats filled the room. When I heard my babies heartbeat all I could do is cry. I may not have wanted to be pregnant but I am and I was going to do everything in my power to keep my babies safe.

Dr. Hill turned of the machine gave me a paper towel to wipe my stomach. She then handed me two picture of my first ultrasound.

“ Both of you are healthy. I will give each of you a prescription for your prenatal vitamins. I will also give you a paper with things you can eat and things you can’t eat. Now Noa I read in your record that you take medicine for anxiety and depression. The medicine that you are currently on will not hurt the babies. But stressing will. Try to stay as calm as possible throughout your pregnancy. If you can I also would like you two to bring the father of your babies with you next time we meet. It would be helpful to know if any of the women on their side of the family had any complications while pregnant. Neither of you have had anyone in your family have complications with pregnancy so we can stick with normal visits. When you go up to the front make an appointment for one month later. If you have any questions you can call me on my phone. It was nice meeting you ladies.”

After we go to the front and make an appointment for next month we hop In the car and go home.

“I can’t believe y’all are pregnant” Lily says as we exit the car to get into the apartment.

“ Noa your not just pregnant with one baby. You have two freaking babies inside of you. Damn you and Leo must have really went at it.”

“Shut up Alex. Come on Kate let’s go pack our bags and head out.” An hour later me and Kate head out of the apartments to head to our parents house.”
