Chapter 7: Trouble in paradise

7 months later

“You didn't bring my phone? I asked you to take it while you were upstairs Jay!” Tina shouted

“Sorry, I forgot! okay, chill” I said trying to calm her down

“Just pass me the cereal box” she said annoyed.

We were in the third idle at a small grocery shop at the mall, we left the children at home with Catherine to grab a few things. I was pushing the trolley behind her but I stopped when I saw a short light skinned guy who stopping in front of Tina.

“Hey beautiful” The guy said and I stood and watched.

“Ey, Brian” she said happily as they hugged.

“I haven't seen you in ages come here!” Brain said hugging her tight and I cleared my throat. I’m not the jealous type but who is this guy.

“Oh! Brian meet my girlfriend Jay, Jay this is my high school ex-boyfriend” Tina said

“Your girlfriend? Wow okay, you're lesbian now?” Brian questioned

I watched her laugh and blush like she wasn’t angry at me a few minutes ago. I walked away while they were still laughing and at the corner of my eye saw him kiss Tina and say goodbye. Yes, I get it... its only out of curtesy but no. That doesnt ride with me, my woman wont be kissed (even on the cheek) by an ex in my presence.

“Alright let's get moving” Tina said still smiling, she couldn’t stop blushing, I could see that she was replaying the conversation over and over again because she kept smiling, she started pushing the trolley and I was walking next to her watching this unfold.

I kept quiet until we got in the car and she looked at me before driving off. We exchanged looks and I pulled out my phone and checked my emails.

“Why you so damn quiet Jay? Sup?” She asked, I could hear her tone was blameful, she was trying to make me feel bad for not talking to her meanwhile she couldn’t stop smiling. I felt disrespected.

“Nothing” I said with no emotion leaving her confused. The whole way she kept checking how I was doing and I was fixed on my phone.

“Catherine please help us with the grocery, where are the children?" Tina asked Catherine when she walked in the house followed by me. I blocked them both, took my insecurities and walked straight to the theatre room. I was still angry and picked out anything my favourite animation movie Despicable Me 2 to watch. I saw Jody at the door with popcorn.

“Hi, mommy” She said handing me the box she had with chocolate and honey popcorns

“Come my angel, come sit next to mommy” I said.

She walked quickly and sat next to me as I put my hands around her.

“Is mommy okay?" She asked trying to look at my face

“Mommy is just fine, why my angel?” I replied feeling despaired.

“Mommy is not smiling and mommy is always smiling” she protested

“We are all human and get angry at times Then we feel sad. I'm okay thou my Angel” I reassured her

She looked at me and back to the screen ahead

We both fell asleep after watching the Moana. Till we were woken up by Catherine who carried sleeping Jody to her room. I walked to mine feeling very tired. I quickly remembered the tension that was still brewing between Tina and I.

I got in bed and looked the opposite direction from Tina.

“What the f**k??? Why you giving me the cold shoulder Jay?” She asked annoyed.

“We'll talk about it tomorrow" I calmly said.

“No. Let's talk about it now. I'm listening!!! like what the hell??" She angrily said. “I SAID WE WILL FUCKEN TALK ABOUT THIS TOMORROW!!” I aggressively insisted loudly and pissed. I never raise my voice at Christina but today I was hurt to say the least.
