Katya's eyes slowly opened, but she didn't recognize her surroundings. She became aware of activity buzzing behind a curtain beyond the little room she was in. She felt cold. She turned her head to look around further and saw Cyrus's face smiling at her.
"Welcome back," he said to her. He was holding her hand.
Just then, a woman came in whom Katya had never seen before. "You're awake," the woman said. "Hi, Katya, I'm your nurse. My name is Janet. How are you feeling?"
"Where am I?" Katya asked.
"You're in the ER at Sherman Hospital. Katya, can you tell me what year it is?"
"I was going to ask you that." She looked at Cyrus. "Are we in the present?"
"Yes, hearts."
