Yet another bombshell

965 Words
I woke up suddenly after a few hours, it took me a while to remember everything that has happened in the last 24 hours from the best party ever, to kissing Ares and the bomb shell dropped on me this morning. I couldn't believe that I was a faerie. I couldn't even believe that faeries exist. Just thinking about leaving here makes me feel sick. I was planning to go to university to become a doctor, and leaving my best friend Lucy and my family to be all alone in a world I really knew nothing about scares me. I hadn't made up my mind, though I'd figure I would hear Mum and Michael out tonight and sleep on it. I wonder what would happen if I didn't go back? It is obviously somewhat important for the High Lord and his son to be coming to collect me. Maybe I'm betrothed to Ares? that would be weird. I will put that on my list of questions I have for tonight. I figured it would be better to be prepared in case emotions get the better of me, and I completely blank out. I had a quick freshen up before heading downstairs and decided to inspect myself more closely. Now that I know I'm not losing my mind and I do, in fact, look different to a few days ago. Up close, my skin was a lot fairer than it used to be, not that I thought that was possible, and if you looked really close, it also seemed to sparkle slightly. I'd figure this would get more noticeable as the glammour wears off. My eye colour, which was blue, seemed brighter. I squealed when I put my hair up and already noticed my ears changing shape. It's still not really noticeable without looking hard, but I could definitely tell they were starting to become more pointed. I wonder what would happen if I did refuse to go back, could mum get my glamour back on? As I was walking downstairs, quietly I overheard a conversation in the kitchen. you could tell they were trying to be quiet. "I think she might want to stay here," Ares said in a hushed tone. "Well, she can't. She has no choice. I don't know why you would lead her to think otherwise. You know what's at stake? " Michael whisper shouted. "Stop it! the both of you, she will be down soon, and she doesn't need to hear you fighting. " Mum interrupted. I felt bad eaves dropping, so I slowly walked in. The conversation was stopped immediately and mum came over rushing to give me a hug. "Honey, I'm so sorry about this morning, I'm sorry about everything," She cried out while giving me a tight embrace. Although I was angry with her, I couldn't not hug her back. After all, she is my mum. "It's fine!.. Just tell me everything now, no more secrets," I replied. Mum broke the hug, nodding at me in understanding. she ushered me over to the table where Michael and Ares were sitting. "Where do I even start" She spoke, almost to herself. "From the beginning. Please." I said. "OK." "I was just an ordinary Fae living in the summer court under Michael's ruling. I met your father at a ball. As he was from another area, I had never met him before. He was a lot older than I was. However, we knew from the moment we locked eyes that we were fated mates." She paused, thinking about her words before speaking them. I mean, so far, it sounds all very romantic. She continued. " So as is customary, I packed my things up and moved in with your father, It didn't take us long to fall pregnant with you. Unfortunately, there are some bad faeries just like there are bad people. One night when we were on a holiday some bad faeries came into our holiday house. There was too many of them too quickly, and although your father was strong, he couldn't defend us on his own against so many. He died that night trying to protect us.. protect you. " She spoke so gently, and she sounded so sad like she was reliving the moment again as she spoke. "Because of the threat, and no one knew who these faeries were or what they wanted, I packed you up and came here to live with the humans, and you know the rest of our story" She said. We all just sat in silence. I was contemplating all the questions I had and which ones got answered. if anything, I think I had more questions after that. "So why were they coming after us? Why did you feel you needed to hide?" I said. Mum kept side glancing, Michael, until Ares again jumped in to break the awkward silence. "Because Harriet, your dad was the king of faeries, your mum was soon to be Queen, and you are, in fact, a faerie princess," "What!" was all I could manage to say. I must have looked like a stunned mullet, eyes wide and mouth open. I mean, if finding out you are a faerie wasn't enough, here I was finding out I was a faerie princess. "That can't be." "It's true," Michael chimed in. "Your dad and I were good friends. In your absence and his death, his brother has been running the place. However, now you're eighteen, it's time for you to take your position as Queen. " Again, I was speechless. "I know, it is a lot to take in, just take the night to think it over," Mum said. "Unless you have any other questions," She continued. "Who killed my father? and is the threat gone?"
