Jacqueline’s voice echoed around the lavish poolside, her words dripping with disbelief and fury. Without thinking, she hurled her phone across the sun-drenched patio, watching it crash onto the couch with a soft thud. Her chest heaved as she stood there, staring at the phone as if it had personally betrayed her.
Evie, seated on a lounge next to her, glanced up from her magazine, barely blinking. “Calm down, Jacqueline. It’s not that serious.”
“Not that serious?” Jacqueline’s voice sharpened like a blade as she turned on Evie, her eyes blazing with anger. “How can you say that? He’s with some nobody! Some... some girl I’ve never even heard of! Do you know who I am?” She ran a hand through her perfect blonde waves, her fury rising as fast as the heat in the afternoon sun.
