From Forgotten to Forever

"I feel so unwell," Abigail said as she stood in front of the printer. She had been feeling sluggish since the morning, reluctant to go to work. What would she do at home if she didn't go to the office? She was not accustomed to doing much, so despite feeling ill, she compelled herself to go to the office. Her tasks were simple: printing, brewing coffee, and running errands for her colleagues. "Abigail, what are you doing? Why are you just standing there in front of the printer? Those documents are needed in the boardroom. The company president is arriving today. Get it together," said one of her seniors, approaching her by the printer. "President?" The young woman asked faintly, unsure if her ill state was the reason she couldn't remember the company president her senior had mentioned. "Yes. President Edward Ulrick of the Ulrick Group," he said. "Edward Ulrick?" the lady repeated. Where had she heard that name before? It seemed familiar. Her dizziness prevented her from thinking clearly. "Take those documents to the boardroom. Mr. The president might have already arrived." "He is here!" exclaimed another young woman in haste. Abigail just looked at her coworkers who were hurriedly getting ready as if a celebrity was about to visit their company. After printing the documents, she walked towards the boardroom. Upon entering, she didn't notice the young man sitting at the head of the table, watching her. The young man watched the seemingly indifferent lady as she laid the documents before the boardroom attendees. "It's been a while," Edward said as he approached the lady and placed the document before her. Abigail heard the words of the young man in a suit and glanced at him simply. She felt dizzy, so his face was a blur to her. "You're wearing those thick glasses again. Should I break them for you once more?" the young man remarked. Break? Thick glasses? Why would he want to break her glasses? That was the question the man she had just met was pondering. Yet, why did his voice sound so familiar? "Abigail, please prepare some coffee for the company president," her senior directed. Company President? The young woman wondered who the company president was again. "What are you still standing there for? Get moving," James said to her. Abigail walked over to the coffee maker inside the boardroom. Upon reaching it, she suddenly acted as if she was going to be sick from the smell of the coffee. This was not like her. She drank coffee, but why did the smell now make her stomach turn? "Are you okay?" a deep voice asked from behind her. The young woman startled at the sound. Startled, the lady quickly turned towards the source of the voice. As she faced the young man, her vision spun, and she nearly fell. Fortunately, Edward caught her waist in time and pulled her close. The lady was even more surprised when the young man placed his hand on her forehead. She couldn't understand why he was doing this and why he seemed worried about her. Did they know each other? Was her dizziness the reason she couldn't recognize the man in front of her? "Do you know I'm starting to feel slighted because you seem not to recognize me?" said the young man. "I'm sorry, Mr. President. I really don't know you. And another thing, could you please let go of me? People are watching," the lady said, trying to push the young man away, but she was too weak to resist him. "You are sick, so don't push me away," Edward insisted. "I am not sick, just a little dizzy," the lady replied before her dizziness overcame her, and she fainted. Fortunately, Edward was there. He quickly scooped her up and carried her out of the boardroom. Everyone watched as the young man carried the lady out. "Do they know each other?" a woman inquired, observing the two. James clenched his fists. He had believed his uncle and Abigail would never cross paths again. Since Christmas and New Year, he hadn't detected anything out of the ordinary about his uncle. Following the auction, his uncle had departed promptly, whisked away by his helicopter for a business meeting on Christmas Day. "What are you doing here?" Abigail asked Edward in surprise when she woke up and saw the young man standing in front of her hospital bed. She couldn't understand why she was there and why Edward was present. "Don't you remember what happened?" Edward asked her. She seemed to have no recollection of the earlier events. "What happened? Why am I here?" Abigail inquired. "I visited the branch where you work. We haven't seen each other since Christmas. I'm disappointed that you didn't recognize me. You even addressed me as Mr. President," said the young man. "And why are you wearing that wig and those thick glasses?" "Do you want my coworkers to be shocked that I returned to the office after a holiday trip with suddenly changed hair color?" replied Abigail. "And I am embarrassed, not everyone will understand." "You haven't learned," the young man remarked, then turned to the approaching doctor. "How is she? Is she sick?" he asked the doctor. "Are you her guardian?" the doctor inquired. "No," Abigail quickly responded. "Yes," Edward interjected. The doctor looked at them, puzzled. "I am her guardian. You can tell me if she is ill," Edward insisted. "She is completely fine. Morning sickness is quite normal, especially for pregnant women," said the doctor. "What did you say? Could you repeat that, doc?" Abigail asked incredulously. "You're weeks pregnant," the doctor stated. "What?!" Edward and Abigail exclaimed in unison. Abigail couldn't believe what she had heard. How could she be pregnant? They had only been intimate once. "I will prescribe you some vitamins. The next three months will be crucial, so you must be careful," the doctor advised before leaving the young woman alone. After the doctor left, Abigail remained silent. She wondered what Edward must be thinking of her now. "Am I the father of the child you're carrying?" Edward inquired of the young woman. "Huh?" the young woman replied, taken aback "Don't just 'huh' me. Answer my question," the young man insisted. "What will you do if it's true?" the young woman asked. "Are you seriously asking me that?" "What else should I ask? I'm just as shocked by this situation. I never expected this. My father will kill me if he finds out I'm pregnant and there's no acknowledged father for my child," she explained. "Then let's get married," Edward suggested. "What?" Abigail was even more surprised by the young man's declaration. "It's my responsibility too. So why delay any longer? Let's get married," Edward proposed.
