NIGHTMARE

“Zenith, that’s impossible! You aren’t lying, right?”

“What do you mean by that? I am mad at you, but I don’t have a reason to lie. You did manage to bring me home.”

“Aiden would never be easy on someone. That thing is heartless. If we didn’t bring his business back, he could have killed you. No one survives his traps.”

“I don’t care. I’m home now. And I came early, thanks to Blight”

“Did you just say Blight?”

“Yea, what’s wrong?”

“s**t…” Then he left my room. Is he scared of him? My mother came to my room to tell me that the school is allowing me a few days off so I can recover. After that, I immediately called Naomi, I missed her. I didn’t have my phone, so I used my mom’s.

“Hey Naomi!!!!”

“ZENITH? Is that you?”

“Yes, I’m back!”

“Oh my gosh I missed you and I’m sorry for what happened. I’m coming to your house right now and no arguing with me. I’m bringing snacks and a big teddy bear.” Then the line went off. I missed her too and I couldn’t wait to see her. I could use her energy right now. I wonder if I will be able to keep all of this from her. She is has become a really close friend and I didn’t want secrets between us.

After a while, she arrived at my house. We started talking about what I missed from school and more neighbourhood gossip. She also brought some schoolwork so I can catch up after I leave.

“I missed you Zen”

“I missed you too silly”

“So, do you want to talk about what happened when you got kidnapped?”

“Well no, but I can tell you that I got kidnapped while jogging and I don’t know who was behind it. I just know that my brothers paid the guy a ransom so I can be released. I’m just glad it’s all over now. I didn’t get much hurt, so don’t worry”

“Pheww…I’m glad too. Aiden was also worried about you. Every time when I update him about you still missing, he would get sad and not talk to anyone until he goes to his house. He was more sad when I gave him your gift on his birthday, it made him emotional. I think he likes you too.”

“Really” I stuttered.

“Yes, so don’t worry I will talk to him so he can see you.”

“But…”

“No buts Zen, you don’t have a butt anyway” I laughed. Naomi can have a loose screw in her head sometimes. I was also worried about meeting up with Aiden. He gives me goose bumps. What will he say when he sees me? I live in his house for Christ’s sake! He beat me up.

After spending the whole day with Naomi, I decided to study so I can catch up. I missed books.

Aiden’s P.O.V

I decided to sleep at home today. I missed my parents and Naomi. Plus Blight has to tell everyone that he is back. When we got home, it was already dinner time.

“Hey mom!”

“How are you my son?”

“Good. Oh, and your other son is here”

“What do you mean?” I was about to answer when she saw Blight enter the house. Tears began well up in her eyes.

“Blight! How could you? Where have you been my stubborn son? We were so worried about you” She said hugging him. My mom is a really sweet person and she is forgiving. Especially when it comes to her children. She has always had a soft spot for us no matter the mistakes we made.

“Sorry mom. I had business to do overseas and cutting contact with everybody was good for everyone. You wouldn’t have let me go.”

“Whatever. Come one let’s eat now. Aiden, call your sister and dad to come downstairs.”

I head upstairs to call them, and we were in the dinner table in no time. Everybody was happy to see Blight. Dad just asked some questions to make sure that he wasn’t up to any mischief. But he was happy to see him.

“So, Blight, did you at least get a girlfriend from your trip?” mom asked. We all burst out laughing.

“No mom. I tried to find one for Aiden though but turns out that he already has one.” What is this fucker up to now?

“What!? When are meeting her? And who is she?” my mom said excited.

“I don’t have a girlfriend! Blight is just messing with you all” I said.

“Oh no I’m not. She is Mr Black’s stepdaughter. Her name is Zenith. I saw her pictures on his phone”

“WHAT?! No, she is not my girlfriend”

“Oh yes she is! She is my best friend and I know Blight is telling the truth. He was so worried when she went missing that he even wanted to cry. So good news is that I saw her today at her house. They gave the kidnappers the ransom and now she is home.” Naomi added.

Oh no she didn’t! I’m going to get her back for this. Fucken traitor.

“Aiden Black! You better make sure we meet her soon. I’m sure the poor girl thinks you don’t love her. You should introduce her to the family. And I’m glad she is home safe” mom said.

SHIT! I’m never going to hear the end of this.

ZENITH’S P.O.V

I was sitting in a chair when I heard footsteps behind me? Does he want to kill me? All I could see is darkness because I was covered in a sack. Suddenly, cold water was poured on my face and I couldn’t breathe. He kept doing that until I felt like I was dying. When I thought that he stopped, he started beating me up with a belt. I screamed so hard that my voice cracked.

“HEEEEEEEELP!”

“Zenith wake up it’s a dream!” I instantly woke up and saw myself in my bedroom. Oh

“It’s just a bad dream Zen…” I turned to see Brook holding me. He was scared. I then immediately hugged and cried.

“It was bad Brook…it was painful…I couldn’t breathe…it was scary…and I thought I was going to die…Please help me I’m SCARED!” I cried.

“SHHHHH…everything is going to be okay. I’m here. Nothing will happen to you. I will never let that happen to you again Chippy. Never”

After comforting me, I closed my eyes to sleep but couldn’t. Brook watched me for a while and left the room thinking I was asleep. I took the phone that Trevor lent me until I get a new one. I dialled some numbers and pressed call. After 3 rings, a voice answered, “Hello?”

“Who is this?” I asked. This isn’t Naomi’s voice. I checked he screen only to find out that I dialled my numbers, which means I called my old phone. What the hell.

“Why are you awake at this time sweetheart, It’s 3am. What’s wrong?” Aiden…of course. That i***t has my phone.

“Uhm…it’s nothing…” I stuttered.

“That doesn’t sound like nothing. Spit it out sweetheart.”

I sighed and said, “I couldn’t breathe…”

“Sweetheart?”

“And it was painful too.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You! You nearly killed me! I might be home, but your memories still haunt me. I can’t sleep! All I get is nightmares of you beating me!”

“s**t…”

“You are co cruel, do you know that?”

“Sweetheart, listen…”

“WHAT?”

“Take my hoodie and wear it right now”

“Why would I do that?”

“Just do it!” I went to my closet and wore the hoodie.

“Now…get under your covers and insert your earphones” And did it.

“What now?”

“Now I’m going to talk, and you will listen…okay?”

“Okay…” I made sure that I was comfy and was waiting for him to talk.

“Look, I know I was mad at your brothers and I did some pretty deep s**t. So, I won’t say sorry because it’s not going to help you right now. The reason why I call you sweetheart is because you have the most kind heart than anyone I know. I want you to remember all the times you went to the orphanage to bring food to homeless kids and it made you happy. I know you didn’t tell anyone, but I was watching you all the time. While I kidnapped you, I brought food on your behalf and told the children that you were sick, and you will see them after you feel better. I also want you to remember all the things you did on the last days. The picnic, movie nights and ice cream dates in our room. I know I’m being unfair and selfish but do it for yourself…”

I was already feeling better by his voice. I wished that he would talk forever. And he brought food for the children on my behalf? I am grateful right now.

He then continued to say, “…I want our best memories to overcome the bad ones. I am not asking you to stop hating you, I just want you to sleep better. You remember the fashion show you did for me, I made a slide show and I hope one day I can show it to you. At that moment, you were the most beautiful girl in the world and also the happiest. You remember the picnic moment? It was like I was having my first kiss. You made me happy that day. Even though I knew that you were leaving soon, I cherished the moment like a rare gem. It is one of the moments I will never forget sweetheart…”

I smiled while crying, can the devil become so sweet? At the moment, I drifted off to sleep like a baby.

AIDEN’S P.O.V

I heard a little snore on the phone, and I knew that I managed to make her sleep. I have never felt guilty about hurting someone like now. Zenith was becoming more precious to me by the day. When I heard a phone ringing, I noticed that it was hers. I switched on her phone so I can see her pictures. I missed her and I guess I forgot to switch it off. When I heard her voice, I was so happy. My happiness didn’t last because her voice was cracking, and it meant that she was crying. I am the reason for her nightmares! It’s going to be so hard forgetting about her. She is my Zen. I am going to try by all means to gain her trust. I can’t be away from her, no matter what. I have to win her over. She is mine. She is the future Mrs Aiden Black.
