Lane Conlay’s POV Lane lay awake in the grand master bed of her ancestral estate, her eyes wide as she stared up at the high, vaulted ceiling. Dark shadows stretched across the room, illuminated only by the faint, silver glow of the moonlight bleeding through the heavy glass windows. Outside, the steady, rhythmic footsteps of the King’s elite royal guards echoed softly against the stone perimeter. They were everywhere, creating an impenetrable fortress around her. She was safe.
