Lane didn't care about Maris, nor did she care about Ethan. Right now, they simply weren't a part of her life anymore. They were insignificant blips in her past, while her gaze was fixed entirely on the horizon.
She was in her chambers, unpinning her hair and getting ready for bed, when the heavy wooden door clicked open.
Maya hurried into the room, her eyes bright with urgency as she held up a sealed parchment.
"Milady, a letter just arrived for you from the High Academy," Maya whispered, stepping forward. "It has the wax seal of Lady Catherine."
