"If you really think you did nothing wrong, why did you tell us to keep it secret? You know you killed civilians and claimed it as military credit, right?"
"Still trying to deny it? You don't even have the guts to admit what you did. Coward. You aren't even worth Major General Conlay's pinky finger."
Maris's face turned dark with rage as she listened to her former soldiers call her out.
"Secret? That was to avoid unnecessary trouble! War is cruel. Civilians get hurt in every war. And what makes those Valkirk innocent? They've been fighting us at the border for decades! My peace treaty ended the fighting. A few border towns were a small price to pay for real peace—they died for a good cause!"
"Heh."
