Part 17
Sania and Kishore decided to find Jennifer. They even tried to prepare an admission for her in their college, in case she had not joined anywhere else, so that they could bring her there.
Because Jennifer had to walk with her head held high. They didn’t want to let her become a victim of anyone’s mockery again. They wanted her to study right in front of Aaron and his friends — so that they would know what it felt like, and never again dare to humiliate her. Sania and Kishore took it as their own mission.
They began their search.
Kishore to Sania:
“If what Aaron and his gang said is true, then she must have been hurt deeply. That must be the reason she didn’t come to college.”
Sania:
“But what if she joined another college?”
Kishore:
“Even if she did… it’s okay. At least we should meet her once.”
Though they had never even seen Jennifer or knew who she really was, they still began their investigation.
First, they traced the school where Aaron and his friends had studied. They went there and asked the security guard:
“Uncle, where is the Principal’s office?”
Security guard:
“What’s the matter?”
Kishore replied:
“We need to meet the Principal. We want to inquire about someone.”
The security guard gave them a sharp look and said:
“Go straight and turn left. The room you see right there.”
“Thanks, Uncle.”
They walked towards the Principal’s office. Standing outside, they asked:
“Sir, may we come in?”
“Yes, come in.”
Sania and Kishore explained everything to the Principal. At first, he hesitated.
But since Jennifer had passed with very good marks, it wasn’t too difficult to find her records. Even though the Principal initially refused, eventually he gave them the details.
Principal:
“You must not create any trouble with this information. I am giving it to you only because you said it is for a good purpose.”
Kishore assured:
“No, sir. You can trust us 100%. Nothing wrong will happen.”
With the details in hand, they went searching for her house. Finally, they reached the place and rang the bell. A woman opened the door.
“Aunty, is this Jennifer’s house?”
“No, this isn’t. We just moved here recently. We got this house through a broker.”
They showed her Jennifer’s photo.
“Please look at this photo. Have you seen her anywhere?”
The woman looked at it and said:
“No, I don’t know her. I don’t even know who lived here before us. Why don’t you check with the house next door?”
Still, they couldn’t get any clue. So they went to the neighboring house and rang the bell. Another woman came out.
“Aunty, we just want to ask something. Do you know Jennifer, who used to live here?”
The woman replied:
“I only know that they moved away. I don’t know where they went.”
She continued:
“They weren’t too close with us. But yes, that girl scored very good marks in Plus Two. They even held a small function for her, and we were invited.”
Sania asked:
“Did they say anything there? I mean, in the function?”
The woman:
“Everyone asked them about her future. They said they wanted their daughter to become a doctor. Maybe she left for her further studies. But we don’t know exactly. We weren’t too close.”
Sania asked again:
“Do you have Jennifer’s or any of their phone numbers?”
The woman gave them a number.
Even after checking with the neighbors, all they could learn was that the family had moved away. Nobody knew where, or why.
Sania and Kishore walked away from there.
Sania said:
“There’s no point in searching anymore. If even the closest neighbors don’t know much, then nobody else will either. Let’s stop here.”
But then she added:
“Kishore, try calling that number once.”
Kishore dialed it immediately. But… the phone was switched off.
And so, their effort had to end there.
