I took a deep breath to calm myself, my trembling fingers gripping the tray in my hands tightly, before I straightened them to knock on the door of the Alpha's office.
It was something I'd learnt to do these past few weeks in order to keep my sanity.
“Come in,” A deep grumpy voice sounded.
“You requested to see me sir,” I said, giving a small bow, my face staring at the ground, the tray still clenched in my hands.
I didn't dare look at the Alpha of Moonlit pack in the face. I was an Omega, and omegas dared not look at the Alpha directly.
Coupled with the fact that I was his son's mate, that made him hate me much deeply.
“Have you rejected my son yet?” He asked immediately.
I expected the question. It was the first thing he always asked me whenever I had the misfortune of being in his presence.
My answer was always the same so I kept quiet instead.
“Are you deaf, you b***h?” He spat angrily, rising to his towering height from behind his work desk.
“N no si- ir,” I stammered.
“Hmm…So, that's how it is. Both of you proving stubborn and refusing to break this sham of a mate bond. I wonder what my family did to the moon goddess for my son to be cursed with an Omega, and not just any Omega, but an orphaned and wolfless one at that!” He spat, spewing some spit in his anger, his vivid gold eyes so like his son's, staring at me in hatred.
“The women of this family have always been strong. Caspian’s mother, goddess bless her soul, was one of the strongest female wolves I'd ever met, which is why Caspian is as powerful as he is. It all boils down to breeding which you obviously lack!”
Throughout his rant, I kept my face downwards, not a peep coming out of me, as I swallowed down all his cruel words.
It hurt a lot, but what was I supposed to do?
Rant back that it wasn't my fault I was this way?
Yeah sure.
That would mean my death, as I believed he would grab at any valid reason to take me out of his son's life. Permanently.
“Since you both are forcing my hands, I'll give my son an ultimatum he can't refuse. Reject you or lose his place as the next Alpha of the biggest pack in North America. I know the son I gave birth to. He'll always choose the pack when push comes to shove,” Alpha Killian smirked and I froze at his words.
I didn't want it to come to that.
I knew how important the pack was to Caspian. He lived for them. He loved me, yes, I didn't for one moment doubt his love, but I'd never want to put him in the position of choosing between me and the pack. That was just insane.
“Drop the tea and get out. I've had enough of your face for one morning,”
Immediately, I placed the tray holding the herbal tea I specially brewed for the Alpha on his desk and hurried out the door.
Out of his office, I heaved a deep breath of relief, and made my way stealthily to my room to rest a bit before starting on my next task.
We omegas were the servants of the pack and meant to do all the chores while the rest of the pack did what they wanted.
So, whenever a rare opportunity came for me to sneak in a bit of rest, I grabbed it with both hands.
Once inside my room, I sensed a presence behind me, and a scream erupted from my mouth, before it was silenced with a wide strong hand.
“It's me, my love. Jeez, you sure scare a lot,” Caspian said, chuckling softly, his thickly muscled arms coming to wrap around my small waist, my back resting on his warm chest.
“Caspian! What are you doing in here? What if someone saw you come in?”
“Nobody saw me. I was extra sneaky, and I missed the love of my life. I searched everywhere for you, but you were nowhere to be found, so I decided to wait for you here. Where were you?”
“I was in the Alpha's office,”
“Let me guess, he wanted you to reject me again, right? That stubborn old man,” Caspian swore in my ears softly.
I didn't say anything and just kept quiet.
I had something I wanted to tell him, but I didn't know how to broach the subject.
It was very sensitive and might impact his decision making.
I wanted him to choose me. To truly stick with me for me, and no other reason. Like the fact I was pregnant with his baby.
“Your father plans to give you an ultimatum. He wants you to choose between me and the pack,” I said instead, waiting nervously for his response.
He didn't say anything, instead he turned me to face him, his beautiful golden eyes glowing slightly in the dim light that was able to find its way into the room.
It was mid evening with the last rays of the sun still in the sky.
Caspain’s mouth found mine, and pulled me into a deep kiss.
At the first taste of his tongue, I lost all sense of reason and fell into the pleasure of the kiss, my troubles and worries a mere distant thought.
That's the way it had always been between the two of us ever since we found out we were mates a month ago.
The passion was all consuming.
Caspian led me to the small bed at the corner of the room, and there we lost ourselves in each other's body and pleasure.
Some minutes later, I lay resting next to Caspian, my entire body almost covering his as we tried to manage the little bed space we had.
I felt good; sublime, like I was floating above space, my body feeling like mush from all the pleasure I've had.
“Let's have our mating ceremony tonight,” Caspian stated suddenly, and I could do nothing but give a reluctant nod in answer.
I didn't want a hurried mating ceremony. I wanted the long planning, the selecting of beautiful dresses for the ceremony, the celebrations and merriment. Everything I'd seen in other mating ceremonies. But what choice did I have?
What if the Alpha truly gave the ultimatum and Caspian ended up choosing the pack? It would break me. What if he ended up choosing me, and I got the hatred of the whole pack?
I cringed in horror at the thought.
Stealing the pack's golden son would surely mean my death. That I was sure of.
In a way, this sudden mating ceremony was the perfect solution to our mating problem.
