Chapter 2

~Vivi I waited in the pack center, anticipation filling the air as all members of Moonlit pack waited for Caspian to come in. The pack elders were seated, some of them with disapproving expressions on their faces. They didn't like how fast all this was. They also didn't like me, I knew that. Just yesterday I was a not so normal Omega. An outcast and an outsider; not human, not werewolf, but something in the middle, especially since I couldn't shift. and today, they were finding out I was their Alpha to-be mate. And I would be their Luna in the future. I smiled in delight and pleasure as I remembered Caspian accepting our mate bond a month ago. It had been a few days after my nineteenth birthday, and I had been going about my Omega duties, cleaning up the pack house when I suddenly heard a loud growl. It was the Alpha's son, Caspian, calling me mate. My joy had known no bounds as he pulled me close to him and accepted our bond. And I knew this hurried mating ceremony was the only way to protect our bond from his father. Once we were mated in the true sense of the word, his father wouldn't be able to stop it. He wouldn't even be able to stop it now that the whole pack knew the next Alpha had found his mate, which was me. We had kept it all hush hush before, with only Alpha Killian and his Beta knowing about our bond, but now the whole pack knew, and even though they thought I wasn't good enough for their golden son, which I could see in their faces, there was nothing they could do about it. They could never force us to reject each other without a valid reason. It was against the moon goddess’s law. Suddenly the crowd started to murmur and began to create space in the middle as someone came through. It was Caspian. He was finally here. I adjusted the shimmery white gown I was lucky enough to find after ransacking my mother's luggage for something presentable to wear and waited for him to get to me so the priest could start the mating ceremony. Caspian got to me, and the next thing I felt was a hard slap to my face. I fell to the ground, clutching my face as pain spasmed through my entire being. “How dare you?! How dare you do this to me?!” Caspian shouted, his golden eyes blazing with murderous anger. What did I do? What could I possibly have done wrong for him to hit me? “I didn't do anything, Caspian, please,” I whimpered in pain as I held my stinging face, tears pouring from my eyes. “You murderer!” He shouted. “How could you poison my father because he disapproved of you? How?!” Poison his father? I did no such thing! “I didn't poison anyone, Caspian, not to talk of the Alpha. He was hale and healthy when I left him a few hours ago,” “Well, he's dead now, and the last person seen with him was you. You took your stupid herbal drink to him!” He shouted harshly, and I flinched at the news. My herbal drinks weren't stupid neither were they poisons. They were part of the few things my mother left me before she and my father died suddenly in an accident. When she was alive she taught me how to mix herbs to provide relief and heal some illness. “The Alpha requested for the drink. It's also not the first time he's requested for it as it helps him sleep better at night. You know this, Caspian. I swear, my love, I didn't poison him,” I explained, my whole body shaking in fright. How could the Alpha be dead? I had no love for the man, but I'd never wanted him dead. “Come,” Caspian ordered, not paying my explanation any mind, and two warriors stepped out, a small pouch in one of them's hands. “So, why was the poison used to kill my father found in your room? Nobody has a grudge against my father except you because he didn't accept you as my mate!” Pulling at his night-black hair with one hand, his eyes filled with pain and anger, he spat. “I hereby reject you, Vivi Johnson, as my mate and Luna, which I should have done before you murdered my father,” “I didn't kill your father!” I cried out as heart wrenching pain went through me at his declaration, severing our mate bond. With my soul feeling like it was breaking, I crawled up to him, heavy tears pouring down from my eyes. “Please Caspian, please don't do this. Please, believe me, I didn't kill him, I swear,” I cried, but Caspian kicked me away from him, my stomach bunching in pain from the kick, as hatred poured off him in waves. “Stop lying,” I suddenly heard a sweet feminine voice call out. It was her. The evil witch that had made my nine years as an omega in this pack filled with misery. She was a big bully and always found the worst chores for me even before I and Caspian became close. And ever since then, her bullying increased as she and her friends found every way to hit and belittle me. “I saw her sneak something else into the Alpha's drink while she was making it in the kitchen and it wasn't her so-called herbal powder. The kitchen was empty, so she thought no one saw her but I did, and I didn't want to say anything so you wouldn't say I was trying to frame her for something just because you chose her over me. It was why I kept quiet,” Finna finished softly, her expression open, sadness vivid in her bright green eyes as she stared at Caspian. To the rest of the pack, Finna, the daughter of the pack's beta, Beta Charles, was beautiful, kind-hearted and strong. The perfect Luna. But I knew how evil she could be. “You should have come to me Finny, I would have believed you and done something to stop her. Instead, I almost mated this murderous b***h!” Caspian cursed. Swiftly, he marched up to Finna, grabbed her arm gently and pulled her to the center of the mating circle where I knelt. “According to my father's wishes, I now choose Finna Emmer as my mate and Luna,” He announced to all the pack members present and my heart clenched in more pain. It wasn't the fact that he rejected me that hurt badly, it was the fact that he'd claimed to love me, and yet he couldn't give me the benefit of doubt. Just because some poisonous powder was found in my room, he automatically branded me as the killer. “Did you truly love me, Caspian or it was all a lie?” I asked, my voice breaking. “I was already betrothed to Finna before I knew you were my mate. I should have just rejected you then since you are just a useless Omega, but I guess I felt pity for you and decided to accept you, which I now regret with all my being,” He growled. Turning to the warriors standing with us, he ordered. “Take her to the dungeons, and lock her up. I hereby sentence her to death by poison too which will be carried out tomorrow for murdering my father,” He announced, causing me to collapse in shock, while the rest of the pack started murmuring. The warriors grabbed my arms harshly and dragged me through the crowd, who kept murmuring as they watched me get dragged to my death. “Serves her right. How can a useless omega like her covet the Luna position? She is neither a werewolf nor a human and can't shift. Useless mongrel!” Someone spat, as the warriors dragged me past them. “I'm glad her true color has been exposed and Finna will now have the Luna position that she almost stole from her. Murderer! Stupid half breed slut!” Another growled. The pack members were airing their views freely, which showed the lack of love they had for me. I had been a part of this pack for nine years now, ever since my parents and I moved to the pack before they died in an accident. My father had been a werewolf like them, my mother, a human who had loved the werewolf life. She had followed my father and decided to settle down in a pack with him, instead of living freely the way we'd been doing ever since I was born. I was one of them, but they'd never accepted me as such. We got deep into the pack house where the dungeons were, and the warriors opened one and threw me into the darkness. I fell with a thump, hitting my head hard on a wall, and fresh tears poured out of my eyes, as misery enveloped me. I was now fully alone again. Caspian, the one I thought would soon be my family, had abandoned me too. Soon, I heard the clack of heels on concrete. Someone was coming. Quickly, I wiped my tears. If it was who I suspected, I refused to let her see me like this; weak and hopeless. A dark blonde head soon peeked in from the dungeon bars, her green eyes twinkling devilishly as she smiled. I didn't have a wolf, but I had some wolf strengths, like sharp eyesight and good hearing, so I could see her smirk as clear as day. “Look who we have here. How the mighty has fallen,” She mocked. “I'm sure you felt on top of the world when Caspian chose you. You, a nonentity, a nobody, a useless wolfless mongrel thought you could become the Luna? What a joke,” She laughed cruelly. “Why are you here?” I asked sourly. I was tired of her trying to rub more salt into my pain. I was already in deep enough pain that it felt like I could die from it. It was only my last willpower that was holding me upright in front of her. “Well, I just came to show you this,” She tilted her head to the side and Caspian’s scent wafted up my nose before I saw the mark. He marked her! He gave her his mating mark! I could no longer be strong. I crumpled to the ground, and she burst into laughter. “That was exactly what I wanted to see; when you fully realize you've lost everything and Caspian is now mine,” Lowering her voice into a whisper, she added. “When you come in another life, you won't covet what is mine, you b***h!” She snapped harshly, then left. I stayed on the ground for a while, maybe for hours, nursing my broken heart and trust, then I stood up and dusted off my dress. I couldn't keep mourning in pain, I had something far more important to protect. A new family. And I would use everything in me to protect it. I was pregnant with Caspian’s child and had planned on telling him after the mating ceremony. But not anymore. This child was mine. My only family and I would protect it with my life. Closing my eyes tightly, I dug deep into my being, searching for the small orb of power there. “Please work, please work,” I chanted desperately as I pulled at the light deep inside me, and disappeared from the dungeon.
