Chapter 41: ForgetI LOOK AWAY, shutting out Cadence’s cries and Ange’s low, vicious cursing. The room’s large, stripped down to concrete, and starkly lit at the far end. It highlights each glinting implement and dark stain. Ange rushes in without hesitation. I stumble forward, finally letting myself see. He hangs from his wrists, clamped in steel. His ankles are bound too, but with chains, not cuffs. He’s been left with just enough slack to squirm, but not enough to brace himself against. That would have been important, to keep him from kicking, to keep him from a moment’s rest.
