Chapter 14: SixersSUDDEN, STARK LIGHT sends me reeling. I’d more than half expected to run into the submerged floors before finding Ravel, but the corridor on the other side of the door is bare concrete block, and perfectly dry. A tangle of pipes and cables clutter the ceiling. The distant thumping is a little louder now, echoing around a sharp corner up ahead. I’m reluctant to leave the shadowy, familiar quiet of the stairwell, but Ravel’s somewhere out there. I need his help. And more importantly, I need a drink. I stagger down the corridor, weaving, clutching the nearest wall to stay upright. “Just for the record, this is a terrible idea,” Cadence says. “You don’t know what’s down here. You have no reason to trust Ravel. I really think you should turn around and go back up to the roof.
