The eldest son of the alpha meant my destiny had already been decided the moment I was born. I would be trained to lead the pack. I trained hard. I got my wolf at 15 as alpha children often do. Regular wolves have to wait until their 18th birthday but I would need to know how to use my wolf powers before then. I turned 18 last full moon and when I shifted I got all my wolf powers. I had been avoiding Marie since I got my wolf. The rest of the pack saw her as weak. I was under no illusions the elders would ask her to leave. I had been trying to stay apart from her to make it easier to handle her not being there. She was magical in every way to me. Long chestnut hair and brown eyes. Slim but curvy in all the right places. She was funny and smart. I found her unique. The moon goddess had found herself funny when she had paired me to her as destined mates. Of course humans do not feel the mate bond as we do. When I had been asked to go find her by my mother I already knew where she was. I could hear her heartbeat and trace her scent. The day I turned 18 I could feel that connection to her. I didn’t want to reject her but she would never be accepted by the pack as their Luna even if she were turned. The day my mother had found her and bought her back to the packhouse I had been instantly interested. She smelled of summer to me. Tomorrow would be a hard day for all of us here. The elders were not just represented by wolves. The leaders of the fae, the witches and warlocks and dragons would also be present. To have a human amongst the creatures thought to only exist in stories was unheard of. Her memory would be wiped and she would be taken to the nearest city. She would watched from afar to ensure her safety and make sure she didn’t wander back to us. I knew this but it still hurt. On her 18th birthday she would be rejected and cast out by the people she loved most and the people she had grown up with. I just couldn’t sleep knowing this. I hadn’t slept for days knowing this. Father had called me into his office to tell me the plans as future alpha. I hadn’t told him about her being my mate. It seemed pointless. I turned over in bed and looked at the clock. It was early hours of the morning. Feeling restless I got up and decided to go for a run to burn the excess energy off. Being with her always made my wolf (Rex) restless. He felt the mate bond. I headed down to the pack gym. Some cardio and weights ought to burn this excess off. I started pounding on the treadmill with Rex popping into my head “she is special you know?” “She’s human Rex, how can she be special? We could never make it work anyway, the pack would never accept her as Luna. You know this. We have to reject her tomorrow.” “Hmm, I can feel it. I don’t think she is just human. She definitely doesn’t have a wolf.” Rex was right. She didn’t smell or feel like a human to me. We all thought she was because what else could she be? I ran for an hour until my body was physically exhausted. Feeling drained I dragged myself into my bed ready to prepare for the heartbreak tomorrow would bring. I didn’t want to do it but my fate had been decided for me. The moon goddess just laughing in my face. Climbing into bed I fell into a shallow sleep full of broken dreams.
