The first time Kiki saw Zara was during a campus debate. Zara stood poised, confident, her words sharp yet graceful. When it was Kiki’s turn, she spoke with fire and conviction, determined not to be outdone. The room buzzed, but the tension between them cut through everything.
That day, a quiet rivalry began.
In classes, Zara’s name always came before Kiki’s. In campus clubs, Zara was already a step ahead. Kiki couldn’t stand it. Every time she caught Zara’s gaze, it felt like a silent challenge — cool and unreadable.
To everyone else, it was harmless competition. But to Kiki, it felt personal.
One rainy afternoon, fate trapped them under the same awning outside the faculty building. Kiki stood, arms crossed, wet curls clinging to her forehead. Zara stood nearby, untouched by the cold, her umbrella closed.
“You always look ready for a fight,” Zara said calmly.
Kiki glanced at her. “And you always look too scared to lose one.”
Zara raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at her lips. For a moment, neither looked away.
In that silence, something shifted — not anger, not hatred, but something deeper.
Their rivalry had never been about winning.
