Drew took Gabe and me home by shifting us with his power. We left Mom in the forest because none of us wanted to deal with her. The moment we stepped into the haven Claire had created for her family and friends, I hugged myself. Sunshine warmed us and laughter rang in the trees of a forest similar to the one we’d left. Claire stepped into sight as if summoned.
She had dark hair, olive-toned Mediterranean-kissed skin, and a warm, welcoming smile. “How’d your witch thing go? Is it time to charge in and save the day, or did you all take care of that on your own?”
Drew stepped to her side and slid an arm around her waist. She kissed his cheek.
