The tension in that hallway was suffocating, the air thick with unspoken words as Alpha Evergreen and Grace locked their venomous glares on me. Their eyes were sharp and accusatory as if they could slice through the very fabric of my soul. I returned the glares in kind, refusing to back down, though my heart pounded hard against my chest. They knew. They knew I had overheard everything.
“What did I ever do to you?” My voice wavered at first, but I forced strength into it. I took a lazy step backward; part of me wanted to get away from them and run far away, but another part wanted to know why. Why did they hate me so much?
