(Written in Jackson's Point of View)
I was laying on my couch, thinking of how to explain things to Katelyn. I wasn't completely sure she knew about my feelings for her yet. I kept dropping hints about them though. But that wasn't my major concern. I was sure that she was going to transform soon. I wanted to help her but she didn't trust me. I was about to drift off to sleep when I smelled Katelyn sweating and heard footsteps and panting getting closer to my apartment.
I quickly got up and ran to my door. I opened it just in time for Katelyn to fall forward. I caught her and could feel her fever. She was definitely about to transform soon. I would need to monitor her fever so I could predict the best time to take her outside. I laid her on my couch and ran around my apartment grabbing things that I thought could help. She was only in a pair of shorts and a tank top so I grabbed a blanket for her.
I also got a bowl of cold ice water and a washcloth to dip in the water and rest on her forehead. After I put the cold compress on her forehead, I slept on the floor next to the couch. She would wake every four hours or so having to pee. I would take her to the bathroom but I don't think she even knew that she was up.
At eight in the morning, I called the school. Ms. Myers, the school secretary, directed my phone call to the principal. "Good morning Jackson. What can I do for you this morning?"
"Hi Ms. Monroe. I'm calling to let you know that both Katelyn Moore and I will not be attending school today due to her having a fever."
"Is she alright? And why are you not coming to school?"
"Yeah. Her mom couldn't stay home with her so she asked if I could do it."
"Is she resting? What is her temperature?" What a nosy a*s person the principal is.
"Yeah. She has a fever of 102."
"Is that the reason she didn't attend school yesterday?" She was starting to get on my nerves but I had to maintain my cool.
"No. That isn't why she wasn't in school yesterday. She had an asthma attack at home yesterday morning and her mom told her to stay home to rest."
"Well. Alright. I hope she feels better to. Stay healthy Jackson. Have a nice day."
"Thank you. You to. Have a nice day." I sighed. I went over to her to re dip the cold compress. A few hours later, I called Mr. Roberts to let him know about her fever and that I was taking care of her. After that, I decided to see if Ms. Beatrice was at their apartment. "Okay. Now I need to go tell her grandmother." I went to go try and walk past the couch but Katelyn grabbed my arm tightly.
"Don't tell Nana." Her voice sounded weak.
"But your grandmother and mother need to know." I replied softly. But she shook her head no. I felt my face frown. She looked like she was fighting sleeping. Her grip on my arm tightened. It started to hurt. She was definitely about to transform real soon. She needed to rest. The first transformation would be very painful and very tiring.
"Promise me you won't tell Nana. And especially don't tell my mother. It isn't like she would give half of a f**k. And Nana would send me to the hospital." She looked like she was commanding me. But she did have a point. It would be terrible if her grandmother made her go to the hospital. Her grandmother understood what we were but didn't know about how the process went. This was the confirmation of the impending transformation. "Promise me Jackson!"
"I promise." I whispered as she fell back to sleep. I sighed as I thought about my own transformation. I had managed to get outside as it became closer to midnight and before the pain started. Unfortunately one of my foster brothers had saw me come outside and had followed me. We were really close too. He thought I was about to run away. I transformed too close to him because he was trying to figure out why I was hurting. I ended up scratching him with my claws. He now was in a mental institute after he told the cops that I turned into a wolf. They didn't believe him of course. But he was also badly injured from my scratch.
After I made sure that she was stable, I walked over to the Wong's place to get her copy of her keys to her place and the Wong's place. It was in her room on the night stand. Around 12:05, her fever started to break which meant that it was time. I picked her up bridal style and brought her into the forest behind the apartments. I felt her stirring a little as we were walking. She must be starting to feel the pain of the transformation.
I laid her gently on the ground in a really grassy spot. It was the best I could do out here. We were far enough from the building that if she were to scream, they wouldn't hear it but still close enough for me to see or hear if anyone was coming towards us. That was a precaution so she wouldn't accidentally hurt someone other than me. I didn't want her to carry the same hurt, guilt, and regret that I now carried with me.
In the moonlight of the full moon, she looked excruciatingly beautiful. Her full lips were shining like she had put on lip gloss. Not too much but just enough to give them a little shine. Her hips were perfect as well. The thickness was the right balance of healthy but not too big. Her legs had a very athletic shape to them. Probably from riding her bike and running often. I stopped ogling her body and spoke what I hoped would be calming words.
"Don't worry Katelyn. It will be over real soon. This is just the first transformation. It's going to hurt to this unimaginable degree. Just know that I am right here for you. But you need to breath. You haven't had your inhaler in three and a half hours. I was able to get a chamber with the mask on it to still give you your treatments." I kept talking to her until the transformation was complete. She seemed to be relatively calm. I smiled at her wolf form. I will transform in a moment. I wanted a moment to admire her new form. Her fur was that inky black color that she dyed her hair. "Welcome to your new life Katelyn Whitewolf."
