At eight that evening, the sound of a car engine cut out beyond the villa. I sat at the vanity in the bedroom and stared at the woman in the mirror. Her cheeks were still flushed. There was still a trace of leftover heat at the corners of her eyes. I took a deep breath and forced down every trace of coldness and hatred that wanted to show on my face.
