The fuzz were crawling all over the scene, or at least that's what Amara's parents called them, the police continued asking her questions which had gotten pretty annoying in her opinion since it's been a couple hours and she still hasn't been aloud to leave.
Amara wanted to help, but she had the urge to go to the bathroom since twenty minutes after she had called the fuzz. Plus, to tick Amara off even further, they would not let her listen to her music in case they needed her to answer immediately.
Amara didn't believe that for a second and thought that they just didn't like the music she played, they neither accepted or denied this, so she was sure she was right the entire time. When the police noticed that she had been walking home, which was just Amara telling them she was going home when they asked where she was going when she found the carcass, they realised she was young and must have parents, shocker on that part.
They aloud her to call her parents, and her Mom was coming to pick her up but wasn't aloud to until she answered some questions herself since it could help with the case. Amara was pretty sure that they just wanted to talk to her parents or at least one of them so they made sure she got home safely. Which was pretty sweet of them in her opinion.
Eventually, Amara's mom finally showed up and engulfed her in a hug, making sure she wouldn't let go until Amara had to pry her away from her mom and even then she was swarmed with hand squeezes and cheek kisses. Amara would usually enjoy these, but since she was laughing at her moms reaction it was difficult not to pee her pants.
Nonetheless, the policemen smiled at her mom, and started talking with her in hushed voices, they tried to lower their voices so Amara wouldn't hear, but it was somewhat of a fail since Amara was literally right beside them throughout the whole conversation and heard all of this.
"Has your daughter ever had any sorts of troubles in school?"
"No, not that I know of. She's a good kid, the only thing I'd see sticking out was the fact that she doesn't hang out with the other kids at school."
"Has she ever grown violent?"
"Only a few times after she's been pushed so far, it was out of defense, but she would never full out hit someone, she'd only push them away so she could have some space." The policeman still didn't look too convinced, but when he looked at Amara his face fell into one of worry.
"Is she mentally troubled or has had any mental illnesses in the past such as depression or anxiety?"
"She has autism, but she's never been depressed."
"I suggest maybe taking her to talk to someone, a case like this is something a kid shouldn't find, especially alone. Nobody should find a dead body since there shouldn't be any in the first place, it's just awful." The policeman raised his hand and scratched the back of his head as he thought of something, looking over at Amara with an unreadable expression, he finally let out a sigh and walked over to her.
Giving her a quick pat on the shoulder, he leaned down so they were eye to eye. Amara's nose flaring to realise he had to crouch in order to be eye to eye with her, she shoved the thought in the back of her mind saving it for later.
"How you holding up?" Amara staring him in the eye for just a moment, she looked down at his lips and smiled, not comfortable with long eye contact.
"I'm okay."
"Are you sure?" His eyebrows creased above his eyelids and he looked at Amara with complete sympathy, keeping his hand on her shoulder, he placed the other one so she would look at him when she answered.
"I'm positive." Amara shrugged the policemen off, but he decided that this was fine and stood up looking over at her one last time.
"This is something nobody should find, especially not a kid or a teenager, I'm sorry you had to go through this, and if you need to talk to anybody, don't be shy, okay?"
"Okay, thank you." He forced a smile at Amara, trying to stay strong and keep a straight face, but as soon as he turned away from her his face fell and he went over to the body covered by a white sheet. Barking out orders to the other policemen, he disappeared into the crowd who began searching for clues.
Amara looking at the man for a little longer until he was absolutely out of sight, her mom intertwined their fingers and gently pulled her away from the scene hoping that by the end of the night when Amara went to sleep she would forget about it all in the morning.
Though she had a feeling this wouldn't be the case, and she was right.
Amara had four night terrors throughout the night, waking up in panics and screaming as she bawled her eyes out. Every time she forgot what they were about and yet every two hours and a half she'd sit up from her bed and begin to cry yet again. If she was lucky, she would be able to fall asleep for the rest of the night only after two, but tonight she wasn't as lucky.
The third night terror she was able to keep quiet, though her heart beat a million miles per minute as she struggled to stay silent and not wake up her parents, after a minute or two though, she had broke down and failed as she began wailing for her mom to come and save her.
Which she did.
It was a rough night for the household, but by morning, everyone was fast asleep, and this was because Amara decided to stay up for the rest of the night and day so her parents wouldn't have to deal with her. She knew her mom would realise what she did, which was wy she decided that as soon as her mom would up she would go to bed.
Which sounded like a great plan in her head, but her mom opened the door as soon as she finalized it and Amara didn't have any time to react as she saw her moms face fall realising what Amara had done. Saying nothing, she walked over to the bed and sat at the end of it, out stretching a hand towards Amara who took it. Rubbing her thumb against her moms hand, she looked up and gave a small smile at her mom who just frowned more at this.
"You should have told me you were going to stay up."
"You know I wouldn't have."
"And you didn't."
"Mmhmm." The silence in the room growing thick as Amara's mom started to form words, she looked over at Amara and cupped her hand to Amara's face.
"Amara, I should have been the one to stay up not you." Snorting and shaking her head, Amara looked over at her mom, bags that looked like bruises under her eyes as she closed them while she answered her mother.
"No, you shouldn't have."
"I'm the parent."
"And I'm the kid who you've dealt with four times in a row last night."
"Amara-"
"Mama, you know I'm right." Defeat slowly seeping into her mom's eyes, Amara took advantage of this and squeezed her mom's hand tightly. Sighing, Amara's mom raised her hands in the air admitting defeat.
"I still would've liked if you told me in advance."
"No, cause then you would've tried to get me back in bed." Amara smiling at her mom, her mom smiled back weakly as she began to stand up and look over at Amara's exhausted face.
"Well, I'm up now, which means it's time for you to go to bed." Amara grinning at her mom's suggestion, she giggled a little bit as she sank back down so she was lying on her bed.
"That's what I was planning."
"Mmhmm, have a nice sleep Amara."
"Thanks Mama. I love you." Amara's mom grinning, she grasped the doorknob and started to shut the door behind her, answering back to Amara's affectionate statement
"I love you too." With the door closed, Amara smiled softly to herself as she turned towards the wall and curled her knees towards her chest, the blanket laying on top of her she closed her eyes and fell asleep.
