Chapter Two

1598 Words
When we got off the plane, a car was waiting for us, this was kinda weird but exciting at the same time, the usual Airport check and all that was skipped. The cars looked super expensive and I wondered if my husband was a mafia drug lord. Six men stood in a straight line, they looked the same; the styled their hair the same way, wore the same suits and had black shades on. They all bowed their head when we approached them. I returned with a curtsey to the disdain of my husband who shook his head in disgust. Don't blame me, there was no manual on how to behave. One of the men opened the door of the car and assisted me in. "Thank you" I muttered.  The car reeked of riches, from the expensive car covers to the mini-bar that Sebastian opened. I didn't even know cars could have that. "Drink?" he arched a perfectly carved eyebrow towards me. "Yes, please" I replied with a smile. "What do you want?" he sent a cold glance towards me. "Water" I blurted out. I didn't want water, I just couldn't function with those piercing looks. He handed me the bottle of water which I unscrewed immediately and took a big gulp. "What are you doing?" I choked on my water as I turned towards my husband who was regarding with shock. (was I drinking the wrong bottle). "I-I am drinking water" I stammered checking the container to make sure it wasn't poison I drank. "I was going to get a tumbler for you, you're a lady and now Mrs Carter, you don't go around drinking water from the bottle". Wait! What? Is he serious right now? I screamed silently. "I am sorry" I collected the tumbler from him. I didn't realize how thirsty I was drinking from the first bottle, I was afraid to ask for a second bottle because I didn't know if Mrs Carter is supposed to drink 2 bottles of water. I wanted to go home, take a nice, warm bath and try to sleep, perhaps, this is all a dream. I was so lost in thoughts I didn't notice we had reached Sebastian's house. As we approached the mansion, I couldn't help but hold my breath as I took in its magnificence. Perfectly trimmed bushes grew through the crevices of the cobblestone path, which led directly to the colossal structure. The mansion loomed proudly behind gates that were made of shiny black stone that contrasted deeply with the polished white rock of the mansion. Marble statues stood tall and proud by the entrance, each decorated with mesmerizing artistic details. The car came to a roundabout with a delicate marble fountain, the soft gurgling of the clear water melodic as it resonated in the surrounding silence.  I stepped out of the car, trying not to gape at the intimidating mansion, not a speck of dirt was found on the walls, I wondered how it was maintained. Sebastian came towards me and hooked my hands with his as we walked towards the front door.  "You live here alone?" I blurted out, drinking in artistic decorations as we were walking. "I've never been married" he answered, I was staring at a woman who was almost naked except for the piece of clothing that ran down her breast almost to her knees. She was holding a flower and was looking up towards the sky. Water sprouted from her other hand, which lay gently out in front of it as if waiting for someone to take them in return. The water fell gently towards the crystal blue pool beneath it, causing ripples to form and wave out until they disappeared.  I stood in awe, oblivious of my surrounding. "Do you want to smell the flowers?" Sebastian's voice pierced through my thoughts. I blushed guiltily as I turned to face my husband who had an amused look on his face. "Sorry," I muttered hooking my hands with his as we continued towards the front door. As we got to the front porch, the doors opened automatically, opening to a large room with ornate chandeliers and oil paintings of old bearded men in tunics and ruffs. There was a big fireplace, big enough to park a car in. Meanwhile, I noticed another group of people, in a queue like the ones I had met at the airport except these ones was smartly dressed and I wished I had changed my dress to something more beautiful and representable. They all bowed as we walked towards them while I fought the urge to curtsy again. A grey-haired lady with a welcoming smile came towards Sebastian, arms stretched open. "Hello dear," she said with smiles while Sebastian kissed her on both cheeks. "How was the trip?" She asked again. "It was very fine, and I brought with me a prize," He said with a smile and motioned for me to come towards him. "Nana, meet my wife; Her name is Amy Cheong". The smile on her face, melted my heart as I collapsed into her outstretched arms, I needed the hug badly. "Good lord, Sebastian, what have you done to the poor child?" She patted my back and drawing deeper into her embrace. "I don't know, she slept on her way back". He replied as he continued with the introductions. "These are the rest of the workers here, Meet my wife you guys". "It's great to have you here Madame, my name is Monsieur Abelard, the residence interior decorator" he kissed the back of my outstretched hand as he bowed curtly. He had a moustache. "My name is Natalie, I am the Pastry Chef and it's great to have you here" a brunette woman greeted me with warm smiles. I spent the next minutes greeting and smiling at almost 21 people, (I stopped counting at the fifteenth person). By the time we were done, I had forgotten almost all their names and the duties. How on earth can one man have a pastry chef, a cook and even a wine chef. Rich people and problems. Nana, whose name is also Sarah ushered us to the kitchen where I was served a cup of hot chocolate. I needed something strong but I couldn't complain. I watched as Nana and Sebastian exchanged funny comments he even smiled severally, as he leaned casually on the kitchen Island. Men and their nannies are one of the most inseparable unions on earth. I took a deep breath. "I want to go home" I blurted out, my knees were shaking with fright. Nana looked at me with surprise. "Honey, you're home already" she came towards me patting my arms. "You want to go back to your apartment?" Sebastian asked with what looked like a concern in his eyes. "Yes," I mouthed trying to steady my voice. Nana was looking from me to Sebastian, she was obviously confused. "I already asked someone to draw a nice, warm bath for you and something delicious is cooking" Nana was all smiles as she convinced me. "I am sorry Mrs Sarah but I really have to go home tonight, I have some prior engagements". "But I promise to be here tomorrow," I said hastily when I saw how flat her face had fallen. "You see Nana, we just got a marriage license and held a civil ceremony..." Sebastian draped his hand around her shoulders comfortingly, Gosh! he was so tall. "And Amy is a devout Catholic who doesn't believe in sharing the same house with a man who is yet to wed her in the church". "I didn't know Chinese were Catholics?" Sarah asked. I resisted an urge to sigh. "My Dad is American while my mom is Korean" I explained gently. "Hmmm...that explains why your skin looks like porcelain," Nana said with a smile again. "Yeah...but I really have to go right now" I turned towards Sebastian. "Okay, I'll ask a driver to drop you off at home". "No!" I almost screamed.  I cleared my throat and said gently "I mean, thank you, but the presence of one of those cars would raise suspicion in the neighbourhood, maybe I can call uber" I suggested.  I cannot afford uber, I had less than 10 dollars in my bank account. "Okay, if you say so" Sebastian eyed me suspiciously. *** I tried not to look at the metre in the uber, I was scared I was going to get a heart attack. He stopped outside my apartment. "How much do I owe you?" I asked with my heart in my hands. "I was paid at the house" The uber driver answered.  What a relieve.  "Oh!, I am sure I have a buck around here" I fumbled in my bag for a tip. "That won't be necessary ma'am, everything has been settled," he told me again. "Here's my card, you can dial any of the numbers on it when you need a ride to any place" He handed a green card to me.  "O-okay, thank you and goodnight" I grabbed my stuff and headed out. I punched 5 on the elevator buttons as I waited impatiently for it to move. As soon as I got on my floor, I hurried to my door and in seconds I was in my room. I crossed the makeshift sitting roomunaway to my kitchen towards my laptop and opened it. In seconds I was typing Sebastian Carter on the google search engine. I squinted at the screen when I saw, 'one search result found'. Something caught my eye, Billionaire!.
